NICK NELSON
I'm sitting in my car in the parking lot, scrolling through the website options for the sauna. I want to book it today - I feel the need to decompress. It's been a rough week in Uni, the professor gave the entire class 24 hours to read 8 chapters of the recent book he assigned and to give him a 2-page (double-sided) book report on it. Talk about impossible... okay, maybe not impossible -- but I've been so distracted lately. I've been in my own head about so much that I can't seem to focus to much on what the book is actually about.
To be honest, I can't even remember the title of the book... oh shit. I'm 'THAT' kind of stressed.
"Fuck it, 1hr in the sauna is needed today", I mumble to myself. I type in my bank details as I've never done this part of the gym before - it's not normally part of my gym membership, so I have to add it onto my gym schedule for today. And with booking a 'private' session, I'm secured to get some peace & quiet and the thought just makes me feel giddy inside and I've not even left my car yet.
I quickly reach for my wallet in the side compartment as my timeslot for today rapidly approaches as I sit here. Type and match the details and save them into my phone's database for future bookings - you never know when you might need a spur of the moment sauna. I press 'Pay to book', lock my phone and grab my gym back. It's a slightly gloomy day out so I make sure to pick up my green hoodie from the passenger side seat and throw my driver's side door open, throwing my right leg out and exiting the car.
It's a little chilly outside but that only motivates me to move quicker from the parking lot and get inside the building. As I parked near the building, I turn around and press the 'lock car' button on my car keys before entering the reception area.
"Welcome Mr Nelson, nice to see you again" I look to receptionist, Demi and smile. She's always cheerful upon entrance.
"It's always a pleasure Demi, you know that" She nods calmly and starts to type away for a few seconds.
"1hr session today, is that correct Mr. Nelson?" I don't respond with words, but I nod.
"Okay - and I see here that you've added a little something here... 1hr in the sauna? Rough day at Uni?" I cock my eyebrows at her question, I know she's only asking out of politeness and because it's her job to create banter between the members.
"You can say that... I need to decompress badly too" She leaves the conversation at that and presses a button at the side.
"Okay, that's you. Your card will be activated for the Gym, also, the code for the sauna will be 1234 - please enjoy the rest of your day" I smile at Demi and take the card from her slightly tanned polished hand.
"Thank you, Demi, see you later" She casually waves her hand at me before returning to what I'd assume was emails. I head for the double-glass doors on the other end of the foyer area and scan my membership card against the card reader. It allows me access less than 3 seconds later and opens the doors for me to walk through. The Gym area is pretty quiet, which is the way I prefer it. I get majority of the machine and dumbbells to myself for session.
Connecting my membership card to an available locker, it opens up and I can throw my hoodie inside and plop my gym bag on top. I reach inside the locker to unzip the bag and grab my water bottle from inside along with my AirPods. I shove my phone into my jogger pocket and slam the locker door closed.
"Fuck sake, Nelson" Realisation sets in seconds later and I re-open the locker to pull my towel out and throw it over my shoulder.
I start off my session by throwing 1 AirPod in to start with, I know others are due to arrive soon and I'm not entirely rude to the community. Lifting my phone from my pocket and tapping onto my gym playlist and pressing play, the songs start playing.
