After looking at each other awkwardly, stars seemed to shine in the woman's eyes as Maya watched her run back into the hotel.
The young girl stood there frozen, not really being able to process... anything. She blames dying for that.
After a couple minutes of shouts and footsteps from inside the hotel, the woman from before excitedly opens one of the large front doors of the hotel.
"HiwelcometotheHappyHotelimsogladyoucouldshowuphereeventhough-" the woman spoke in a hurry. Maya couldn't catch any of it, but she seemed happy.
"Babe, calm down." A moth demon interrupted, walking up to her.
"Right sorry." The taller demon said to the paler one. She then redirected her focus on the younger girl before her, "Hi, welcome to the Happy Hotel! This is my girlfriend Vaggie. I'm Charlie. Charlie Morningstar."
Maya blinked twice at her. Morningstar? Like the devil? "Sorry, I'm Maya. Where exactly am I? I think I just died, but I'm not sure." She asked after some time of uncomfortable silence.
"The Happy Hotel?" Charlie repeated, not understanding what she was asking about.
"Hell, kiddo. You're in hell. And I know it's not the best place to be in, but this hotel is supposed to help you with that. If you come inside, we can tell you all about what we're trying to do." Vaggie said, actually answering her question.
Maya nodded her head and silently followed after them. So she really was in Hell. It seemed like something not so bad at first, but after hearing it from someone else it's like a slap to the face. Eternity. In the worst place possible.
As the two women showed the teenager around the hotel, they continued to talk about their plan. They wanted to use the hotel as a way to get sinners to Heaven to avoid some mass extermination. They (well, Charlie) believed that sinners could be redeemed. So that's what their hotel aimed to achieve.
No one had volunteered except a man named Angel Dust, but apparently he wasn't very helpful.
"So, what do you think?" Charlie finally asked Maya with anticipating enthusiasm.
Maya looked at her with a smile then said, "I think it's a great idea. And I think it's possible." Did she actually think it was possible? No. But Charlie did. And she didn't want to get Charlie's hopes up so easily. She seemed nice. "I think I should stay here, too!" She just wanted a free room.
"Really?" Vaggie and Charlie asked at the same time. Charlie, more enthusiastic than her girlfriend.
"Awesome! Vaggie can get you a room and you can start your path to redemption!" Charlie finalized, trying to bite back an eager smile. The three of them stood quietly as Charlie was practically bouncing on the balls of her feet. "Okay! I have to go get ready for a news broadcast so, I'll leave you to it!" And with that, she was gone.
"Come on, kiddo. Let's get you a room." Vaggie said, leading the way to an office.
..."So, how'd you die?" Vaggie asked after handing Maya the key to her new room and showing her the way.
"I don't remember." Maya replied as the two walked down the hallway.
"That's... actually pretty normal. A lot of sinners don't remember much of their life." Vaggie surprisingly said. It was almost as if she was trying to make the young girl feel better. Vaggie just didn't seem the type to have a lot of emotion. S̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶h̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶k̶n̶o̶w̶.
"That makes me feel a lot better." The young girl sighed, looking to the ground.
"I know you don't want to stay here. You think it doesn't work." Vaggie blurted out after a moment of silence.
"Is my acting that bad?" Maya jokingly asked, turning her head from the ground to her.
Vaggie chuckled a little then replied, "No. I can just tell when a teenage girl is lying. I used to be one too, you know."
"Really?" Maya asked, making Vaggie chuckle once again.
The sweet moment between the two came to an end as they arrived at Maya's new room.
"I think I'm gonna turn myself in." Maya admitted as she suddenly felt a huge amount of fatigue wash over her.
"You do that." Vaggie agreed, patting her back then walking away.
...
After getting her hotel room and being told to ask them any questions she might have, Maya laid in bed. She wanted to watch Charlie's news broadcast (as the couple had just left for that) but she was just so tired.
Maya closed her eyes, blissfully unaware of how horrible this new place could be. And how many people would truly love her.
