Instead of going back to the hotel, Maya stayed in the city. She wasn't familiar with the place. With tears in her eyes and a slightly swollen and bruised cheek, she went back to the rooftop she was at when Husk and Hank were with her.
She sat on the edge of the building with her legs hanging off and her puffy eyes looking out towards the city. What went wrong? Why would Angel treat her like that? So many questions and not a single one of them could be answered.
"Maya?" The familiar deep feminine voice asked with concern.
She didn't turn around nor answer her. Vaggie had noticed Maya in the city and when she didn't go the way the hotel was... Vaggie followed her. She approached Maya with caution, not wanting to upset her further.
"Are you okay?" She asked as she sat down next to the fox demon.
Her eyes went wide when she noticed the puffiness of Maya's eyes. She was crying. This made Vaggie pissed off. Who the hell made her cry?!
"Hey, hey..." Vaggie cooed as she wrapped Maya in a hug. "I promised to not let anything bad happen to you, okay? That also means that if someone does something, I'm going to break their neck." She said... reassuringly?
Maya made a small chuckle at this. It made Vaggie smile at her innocence. She was being serious. She was very protective of Maya.
"So..." Vaggie started as she let go and grabbed Maya's shoulders. "Tell me what happened." She said.
"Vaggie..." she wanted to tell her mother figure so badly. As much as she loved Vaggie, she couldn't upset Angel. "There's someone I really care about-"
"A crush?!" Vaggie interrupted, anger dripping from her voice.
"No! No!" Maya said. "Definitely not." She cleared her throat before continuing. "I really upset him today. I was trying to get him to spend more time with me but I made things worse." Maya paused for a moment. She watched Vaggie's expression, making sure she didn't say the wrong thing.
"Okay..." Vaggie edged her on wanting to desperately know who she should kill first.
"His soul is owned by someone." Maya stopped. She knew what to do. "I got it."
"Got what?" Vaggie asked her, not following.
"I got it!" Maya repeated, more excited.
"Got what?!" Vaggie asked again, louder.
"You're a genius!" Maya shouted. She jumped up, Vaggie doing the same.
"What?" Vaggie asked with less enthusiasm.
Maya jumped up and hugged Vaggie, her returning the favor with no hesitation. She loved Maya, of course she would give her a hug.
"Thank you so much!" Maya exclaimed. She started down the latter of the rooftop. "I'm gonna fix this!" She shouted once again.
Vaggie jumped down the ladder with the teenage girl.
"Where are you going?" Vaggie asked, worried she might do something stupid.
Maya didn't answer her because she was doing just that: something stupid.
"Bye, mom!" Maya shouted without thinking.
Vaggie stopped following her after those words. Mom. Maya called her mom. It made Vaggie's heart swell with joy. She did see Maya as her and Charlie's daughter. She'd be proud to admit that. And to hear it from the girl herself, it was like a dream come true.
Vaggie let Maya do what she was going to do as she walked back to the hotel with a smile on her face. Mom. She liked the sound of that.
Maya continued to run. Every step she took replaced her anticipation with anxiety. When she finally reached her destination she was regretting her decision. Should she really trust them? She did once and she was fine.
She pushed all of her thoughts away and walked inside the V tower. She walked to the elevator and pushed the button for the penthouse.
The elevator made a "ding" sound as the doors opened. She walked to the meeting room and immediately heard three voices talking to each other.
Maya stopped and breathed in and out slowly to calm her racing heart. She was scared, to be honest. She didn't know how this would go and she didn't have time to think about her plan.
She took a deep breath and raised her head high. She wanted to seem confident, like she has been waiting for this for years. She pushed the doors open and strolled in the room.
The V's immediately stopped what they were doing. Val looked at her with curiosity and wondered what she was doing here, Velvette looked at her with surprise that she had so much confidence, and Vox looked at her with a large genuine smile.
Vox had his friend back. That's all that mattered to him. What she said next made Velvette and Vox even happier.
"Let's make a deal."
