Charlie and Vaggie stood at the entrance of the hotel, watching the cannibals practice for the big fight.
"Oh, I wish my mom were here to see this." Charlie said.
Vaggie smiled at her girlfriend. "The cannibals seem ready to fight." She said. "Are we?"
Were they ready? Their afterlives were so normal a few hours ago, it was hard to believe they'd be fighting for their souls' existence.
"Fear not, damsels!" A voice yelled.
Sir Pentious bursted out of the hotel's doors, wearing an older styled army uniform.
"I shall have the staff ready for victorious combat!" He told Charlie and Vaggie.
"What in the hell are you supposed to be?" Vaggie asked, gesturing to (what she thought was) his ridiculous outfit.
"General Pentious, reporting for duty." He said and saluted. "I'll turn those rapscallions into soldiers in no time at all!"
Charlie smiled at his enthusiasm. "Thank you, Pen."
Just then, Niffty ran up to Pentious asking what she could do to help.
"The base needs fortifications." General Pentious told Niffty. "Reinforce the southern wall! Create a moat around the perimeter to stop a ground assault."
The small, one-eyed demon simply looked at Pentious. She had no idea what he had just said.
"How about this..." Charlie kneeled down to her level and brought out a knife. "If you see an angel, stab it."
Niffty quickly grabbed the knife and looked around. She saw Angel Dust talking with Husk and Maya. She ran towards Angel with the knife in hand.
Angel saw the little demon advancing closer to him with the knife. He ran away and climbed on the pole, not willing to be double-killed by that thing.
"Not him!" Charlie said, noticing the commotion.
Angel did a flip off the pole, walking with Husk and Maya to stand next to Vaggie.
"Listen up, sinners!" Vaggie called out to everyone. "We've got 24 hours before the extermination begins. Let's get to work."
Charlie held onto Alastor's microphone, ready to give a speech to everyone.
"I want to thank everyone for coming." Charlie said. "Even people who aren't staying here yet..." she then looked at Cherri Bomb, who was standing next to Angel and Maya.
"Look, I can't resist a fight, okay? Especially when I get to tag team with these fuckheads." She then wrapped both of her arms around the spider and fox demon.
"Wait, me too?" Maya asked her.
"Why not." Cherri said. "I've had a change of heart."
Maya smiled at that. It was nice to not be on her bad side. She wasn't too bad once they got used to each other.
"Tomorrow, the Exorcist Angels will face a hell ready to defend itself and win!" Charlie exclaimed. "But in case we don't, I want you all to know... that getting to know you has been the biggest honor of my life. Whatever redemption really means, I know you all tried. I have seen the good in all of you. And it's...I-I'm just...I love you all, so much, and-and live tonight however you want because-"
"We're all going to die!" Niffty shouted. She laughed maniacally, forcing everyone around her to take a step away.
"Alright! Let's give it up for not dying! Love not dying." Vaggie slowly clapped. "Drinks?" She asked the hotel residents.
...
Maya stood on the mezzanine, watching the group drink and cheer with each other. They were nervous, but they were ready. But even with all that confidence, Maya was still worried that something would go wrong.
A tap on the shoulder brought her from her thoughts. She tilted her head back and saw Alastor, Niffty on his shoulder.
"Almost makes one sentimental." Alastor said, gesturing to the friends they've made.
Niffty jumped on top of Maya's head. "I really like them!" She said. "They let me put on roach puppet shows without booing!"
"An enjoyable collective to be around." Alastor said, moving to stand next to the young girl. "I admit, one could get accustomed." He wrapped his arm around Maya's shoulders, wanting her to know that even without the deal he'd still protect her.
Niffty grabbed two crowns made of roaches and put them on Alastor and Maya's heads.
"I dub thee, King and Princess Roach." She said.
"Oh, to understand your twisted little mind." Alastor said.
They both laughed maniacally. Maybe he did understand it. Maya smiled at the two, finding them fun to be around. Even if they were a little weird, they were still family.
Just then something rang in her pocket. She pulled out her phone and went to her messages.
FROM: VOX
come by the V towerMaya stated at the message. She couldn't say no, but now wasn't the best time.
TO: VOX
I'm sorry Vox, I really can't. I have to join the fight against the exterminatorsFROM: VOX
that's exactly why I want you over here, now.Maya but her bottom lip and turned her attention to Alastor.
"Alastor?" She asked.
"Yes, my dear?" He responded.
"Can you get rid of a deal a demon made with someone else?" She asked him.
"If that demon made a deal with me that cancelled out the other one." He said. He knew where this was going. "Why?"
She furrowed her eyebrows in thought. She already made a deal with him once, why not again?
"What deal would get me out of the one I have with Vox?" She asked.
Alastor's smile got a lot bigger. "Let's make a deal..." he said.
...
"So it's decided then." Vaggie said to Charlie. They were currently in a small part of the hallway outside of Angel's room. "Maya stays with your father until the extermination is done."
"That way she doesn't get hurt." Charlie explained.
"Right." Vaggie sighed. "How do you think she'll feel about this?"
"She'll be upset." Charlie said. "But we have to do it. We have to make sure she's safe."
Vaggie smiled. They'd do anything to make sure Maya was safe.
