"Meredith Grey" the nurse called out,
Meredith quickly looked around before standing up, and walking towards the front desk. She was sure no one would recognise her here but she didn't want to risk it if she didn't have to.
"Hello Mrs Grey," the nurse said, "Dr Hope is waiting for you," she explained leading Meredith down the hall to the doctor's office.
"Thank you, and please just call me Meredith." She said entering the office.
It felt weird being the patient and not the doctor but she may finally get some answers.
"So Meredith, I've seen your chart can you please explain to me exactly what's been going on?" Dr hope asked looking up at her,
"It's... well a few things. The main thing is I'm regularly in pain, I've been to several doctors and can't seem to figure out what's wrong with me. Being a doctor myself I have suspicions but I'm an intern in a surgical residency so it's not my area of expertise." Meredith explained, she felt relieved to final have a doctor that just seemed to be listening to her.
"Ok, I can imagine that's tough, hopefully we can finally get you some answers, would you mind expanding a bit more on the pain you're in plus if you are having any other symptoms plus if you'd like to tell me what your suspicions are I can keep them in mind?" Doctor hope asked looking down at Meredith's chart in front of her.
She'd been to several doctors all of who ran the same tests and just told her the pain was normal that she was just overworked and it was all stress related but she knew that wasn't true. These pains where something she'd lived with her whole life, her mother refused to acknowledge it was an issue and until she was off her mother's insurance she wasn't able to try and seek treatment.
"Well the pain tends to be quite consistent, it's not unbearable just regularly uncomfortable. Occasionally it gets worse, I'll have a flare up of pain sometimes during which basic things become almost unbearable. I struggle sometimes with my joints they are all hyperextended but sometimes they really hurt and I don't know why. I also get dizzy really easily but I'm not sure if this is because I'm dehydrated because I often feel dehydrated like I just simply can't drink enough I'm always thirsty. But everytime I stand up if I do it too quickly my vision goes black, I mean it comes back after a moment but it goes black. Yeah, oh and I have the most sensitive skin, I'm not sure what's wrong with it but everytime I scratch it or bump it it welts it's makes it really hard to wear certain clothing but yeah I think that it, I'm not sure, my suspicion for my skin is um Skin derma.. something," Meredith rambled, she knew it was a bit of a mess but all her symptoms kind of bled together but also didn't,
"Skin Dermatographia," Dr Hope said,
"Yes that's it," Meredith sighed,
"Ok, I see well, I can understand how that could be difficult, let's get started. It may take a few appointments to do some test are you ok with that?"She asked, looking up at Meredith
"Yes," Meredith said tearing up,
"Oh is everything ok Meredith?" Dr hope asked concerned,
"Yes yes," Meredith said smiling, "you're just the first doctor to actually listen to me and care." She explained wiping the tears from her eyes,
"Well I'm determined to find you some answers Meredith, let's get started shall we." Dr Hope said with a smile,Dr hope started with basic check up on Meredith, before moving into some more symptom specific tests.
It took about an hour, and Meredith was exhausted.
"Ok Meredith," Dr Hope said smiling, "I know it's been a long hour, but I'll get those samples sent off for testing, after this initial evaluation I have some theories as to what might be going on but I just want to get confirmation from the results, and we will run another few tests. For those tests I will need you to most likely stay overnight and you should have someone else drive you home as they could leave you feeling a bit off, but I will give you a call to confirm those once I have these results back." She explained,At the mention of an overnight stay Meredith felt a knot grow in her stomach. No one knew she was here and she'd planned to keep it that way but now she would need to tell Derek. If anyone at the hospital found out she was worried it would jeopardise her intern placement, plus staying over night Derek wouldn't be happy about that, it was fine she sighed, at least she would be getting answers.
"Thank you Dr Hope, it means so much that you are actually trying". Meredith said, before grabbing herself to head home.
By the time she reached home she was exhausted, between the drive there and back and the tests she'd done while at the doctors she had nothing left in her.
Looking at the time she knew she had about three hours before Derek got home that gave her enough time to have a quick nap before making dinner. She would be fine just a quick nap. She thought to herself as she lay down on the bed.It didn't take long for sleep to overcome her,
3 hours later,
Meredith was suddenly awoken by the sound of the front door opening,
"Crap" she said looking at the clock on her bedside table, "I haven't made dinner..."Authors note
