CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX | LEATHER GLOVES

Sophia paled upon seeing his new gloves, her anger seeping into confusion. What had she said when she was drunk? The last time he'd made her drunk she assumed that that was when he'd manipulated her into saying all the names of her previous abusers. But he'd killed them all so who had he killed now?
Storm didn't give her a glance, simply taking off his gloves before crouching down to Koshmar and giving him a rather large bone. Koshmar, of course, happily accepted the treat, gnawing on it as Storm scratched him behind his ear.
Simply happy to see the man he regarded as his father, Koshmar tilted his head, allowing Storm to really get in there, panting happily and staring at his owner with mirthful eyes. It was evident to everyone in the room that the dog loved Storm's attention.
"Who did you kill?" Sophia crossed her arms and glared. She'd made her decision. She was never drinking again.
Storm didn't answer, he simply cooed at his happy dog. "Who said I killed anyone?"
"I did. I'm not stupid. You got new leather gloves."
Storm hummed. "I think it's best if you don't know. But then again you don't really care about them, do you?" Storm cocked his head to the side mockingly. "Maybe if you did, you would've turned on the news. Maybe you'd see what you're searching for if you bothered to watch the news instead of watching me," he taunted, laughing at the girl before putting a leash on his dog.
Sophia ignored him, knowing he was simply trying to get a rise out of her. He was just trying to rile her up, she had to remind herself. "Where are you taking Koshmar?"
"Relax. I'm just taking him for a jog. It's not healthy for a dog to stay cooped up for so long."
She knew that already. While Storm was gone, Sophia was the one who took the dog out for walks multiple times a day. It made it nearly impossible to stalk Storm. If it hadn't been for Koshmar, she would've stayed by the computer.
That had been the very reason why Storm had left Koshmar with her. He knew she adored that dog. He could see it in her eyes, in her action and in the way he often found the two napping together on the couch like the lazy shits they both were.
The suspicion in her eyes was as clear as ice. She didn't trust him. And rightfully so. Storm didn't even trust himself at times.
"Besides," he started, tugging the dog to his side as he put his gloves back on. "Koshmar likes running. Hunting."
Her glare nearly burned a hole through his skull. "You're not gonna make him hunt!"
Koshmar barked, confused as to why they were fighting once again, torn between sides. He didn't like seeing his parents fighting.
Storm cooed, scratching the dog behind his ears to calm him. "Stop shouting, malyshka. Who knows, the neighbour might call the cops when she hears what I'll do to you," he warned, glaring at the little girl, the warning intelligible in his eyes.
Sophia took a step back and gulped. Why was he in such a bad mood? He had no right. He was the one who left out of his free will!
Storm stood up straight, taking Koshmar with him. He left, not exchanging another word with Sophia who beelined to her computer. He hadn't lied to her, however. Storm did indeed simply go for a run before going to the local butcher and buying it out of steak supply. It was practically night by the time he'd returned.
