CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE | INSECURITIES

"Why would I be mad at you?"
Sophia kicked her feet about, her hair shielding the redness across her cheeks. "You're mad at me."
"I'm not."
He was. It was obvious that he was by the way he was dissecting the rabbit with the cleaver knife. Sophia wasn't scared of him, however. Nor did she flinch. She knew that something was wrong with him—with them. And she couldn't help but stupidly feel guilty about it despite having every right to feel the way she felt.
"I'm not mad," Storm repeated, glaring at the little girl.
"I... You should take Koshmar out for a walk."
"Don't tell me," the knife slammed down into the cutting board, embedding the hard metal into the wood, "what to fucking do."
Sophia finally took a step back and gave the angry man a curt nod before returning to the couch. Koshmar quickly jumped onto the couch beside her, laying his head on her lap despite Storm's glare.
It wasn't until another several minutes before Storm stood before her once more, blood dripping down his apron. "Up. Let's go."
Sophia hesitated. After all, she did not want to leave his condo. She knew it was safer there, especially with the witch-hunt there was after Selarom — her. "Is it... okay?" For her to leave.
Storm glared at her for questioning his judgement, and not doing as he said right away. "Up. And take your fucking pill unless you want me to shove it down your throat."
Sophia shuddered, remembering how he'd held her down only a day ago and shoved his fingers down her throat, spitting into her mouth as he forced her to swallow the contraceptive pill as if they were actively having sex. They weren't. She despised his guts. Despite her deep-rooted hatred, she stood up and poured herself a glass of water, swallowing the pill as she watched him clean up like the insane fucker that he was.
Storm didn't say anything despite sensing her glare. He knew their constant fighting would only lead to one of three places: Sophia's pretty eyes extracted from her face, Storm storming out before he would kill her or Storm bending her over the counter and taking her from behind as she screamed for more. None of those options seemed very astute when their entire relationship was hanging off a thin thread.
He knew she was still upset about him fucking one of Andrej's bunny girls.
"I don't want to eat rabbit," Sophia admitted, bitterness pilling in her mouth. She couldn't eat it. Not when she'd watched him kill the poor animal. At least he'd had the decency to put the animal out of its misery before skinning it. That couldn't be said for her former foster brother.
"Did I ask?"
She didn't say anything. He was obviously in a spoiled mood.
"Put a leash on Koshmar instead of standing there and looking stupid."
Sophia's eyes snapped to Storm's. "I'm not stupid."
"In which part of that sentence did I call you stupid?"
Now she did feel stupid.
"Do as I said."
Sophia gestured for Koshmar to follow her, leaving Storm in the kitchen. It wasn't long before he stood beside them, wearing a new shirt and a pair of equally new black gloves. "Who?"
