Genevieve followed the man deeper into the forest. "So, what am I going to have to do to earn your trust?"

"Talk."

They reached a clearing with boulders arranged in a circle. Most of the men were already seated. The man in the middle sat down and gestured for Genevieve to sit next to him. "So, tell me about yourself."

"What?" Genevieve wasn't expecting this. "You want me to talk about myself?"

"First of all, tell us why you want to be a rebel. And don't lie. We're pretty good at discerning lies. And if you did lie, we would have to kill you or take you prisoner otherwise."

Genevieve's mouth was dry, but she cleared her voice and started to talk. "I have these friends that I've known my entire life. One of my friend's father was a General in the army, and the king killed him. Not stab with a sword kill, I mean torture kill. My other friend was kidnapped, most likely by the king. I don't even know if she's alive or not. Now, my friend is out looking for her and he might die in the process. Collin also told me about how the king killed his parents and I finally realized that the king shouldn't be power. Isn't that reason enough?" She wiped at the tears suddenly streaming down her face.

"It is most definitely a reason." The man says. "But how do we know that we can trust you? You are a puppet under the High King."

"Puppet? I am not his puppet. The high king is abusive of his powers and I have never done anything for him. And as for your first question, can you trust anyone? Can you trust Collin or anyone in this rebellion to not betray you? It's a risk you have to be willing to take. Yes, maybe I will betray you, or maybe I won't. I can't change what you think, but think of all the help I could give you. No, you can't and shouldn't trust me. But will you give me a chance?"

"Spoken like a true rebel." The man grinned. "Well, you certainly made a point. I don't think I have another choice at this point. You know too much information. Plus, your father is aiding us, though it may be limited."

Genevieve gasped. She had thought that her father was helping the rebellion, but that was just a suspicion. Now, it was confirmed.

The man looked at the others. They nodded at him.

"Well then, welcome to the Wildflowers."
