"i am an airbender too, dad! let me fight along!" jiseok demanded, following his father with hasty steps. he didn't approve as much. "jiseok!" the elder man shouted and stopped walking, turning around to face his son.
he looked angry. "we're in the middle of an attack! go hide with your mother!" the earth crumbled beneath their feet and the father pushed his son away, making him fall to the ground.
just a few seconds later, an earth stake pierced through the ground - a planned attack on general kwak and his son. "we don't have time for this!"
jiseok still followed his father. "i can't just let our home get destroyed while just watching-" "jiseok, god damn it, you're still a child! this is war!"
they ran into two earthbenders. both of them watched general kwak with a grin. just his son was in the way.
without even noticing, the piece of ground beneath jiseok started levitating and he was thrown against the wall of their central house.
falling to the ground, jiseok coughed, dust polluted his lungs and his back hurt from the impact against the hard stone.
looking up, he saw his father fighting against their two enemies. yet air was useless against earth. "dad!" jiseok shouted out, scrambling to stand up and run to help his father.
the building in front of them collapsed, the earthbenders used parts of them, crashing them down on his father, who was caught of guard from the sudden loud noise.
jiseok stopped breathing. his ears were ringing as his eyes were only able to focus on the rubble of stone from their fallen building.
he wanted to shout out, yet not a single noise escaped his lips. there wasn't a moment to be sad, rage channeling through his veins.
the gust of wind he created was enough to lift up some pieces of the building, thrashing them down on the two intruders.
they countered the attack, using these exact pieces as they let those fly towards him. it was too much, jiseok tried holding them on, yet his bending skills weren't that developed.
he was hit in his torso, making him scream out in pain as he fell down onto the floor. the chunk of stone becoming one with the earth beneath him as the enemies kept him trapped.
as they got closer, jiseok closed his eyes. he didn't want to look on those who would bring down death to him. it never came that far.
the two men gasped before jiseok heard two bodies slump against the ground, the stone crushing jiseok's body becoming loose. the boy immediately broke free, stunned by what happened.
he looked his older brother in the eyes before looking down to the two men. their bodies ran pale, almost purple-ish before he figured what had happened.
his brother was one of the most-skilled airbenders of their city. he mastered the skill to it's limits, knowing how to bend even just a tiny breath. and that's what he did - he used their breaths to take out any air left in their bodies.
"gunil..." jiseok whispered in shock, the elder boy immediately rushing to his younger brother and hugging him. "i saw what happened to dad.." he whispered, pulling jiseok up to his feet.
"there's no time to dwell on that. you have to retreat. go!"
gunil's tone told him that there really was no time to argue. and this time jiseok complied, running away in the other direction.
a sudden impact on his back made him fly forward, rolling his body to not hurt himself. until there suddenly was no floor to support his sudden fall.
he held onto the cliff of the floating island their city was build on. as he tried pulling himself up, the earth underneath his fingers crumbled, making him lose his grip and fall down into the abyss.
