King
The boys came quickly after I called church and we had Duke tell us what he had heard from Tom. Our new protectee seemed to have contacted him and without telling us much, he explained that he found out that Ethan Johnson was the mastermind behind the human trafficking. The man had been a target of Tom's for a long time but he never had enough evidence. Everything could change if the woman was found who contacted him. The FBI would handle everything else if she was safe, and we had to make sure that happened.
We sometimes had to do the dirty work that needed to be done, and this time would definitely be one of those times. Void put a video link to Pete Baker, father's friend and Ivy's father, on the wall behind us. The man seemed tired and worried, and after father explained some things to him, he didn't ask much. He knew this was club business and respected it. Father promised to help him, and I nodded in agreement. Void and Pete's hacker shared some information, and the men communicated in their own language. Soon, I saw a few faces of men who worked for Ethan on the screen and Pete recognized the man who had his sister.
"Ivy and I found him yesterday in Irvine," Bane said, and I looked at him. What the hell were they thinking sending a woman to watch human traffickers? But as far as I understood, they didn't even know they were human traffickers, so I didn't say anything.
"I ask that Bane and Ivy stay with you until you get this all sorted out. I know Ivy; she would go search on her own. Please," Pete said as he ran his hand through his gray hair. "Jane should also see a familiar face when she is found," he added thoughtfully.
"They can stay here...but they're not allowed to interfere," I explained to Pete. "They saved my siblings; I owe it to you," I added.
Doc came in just as we were almost at the end. "What have I missed?" he asked.
"We have to tell Ivy," I heard Bane say.
"The girl is at the clinic with your mother," Doc said, and I nodded.
"Don't tell her anything today...it's been a tiring day. The thing with Jane is going to kill her. Since her mother died, Jane is all the girls have," Pete explained.
"Then I'll tell her tomorrow when she's a little rested. I'll take her to the clubhouse, and tomorrow we can tell her, but please don't talk to her before I call you. I don't want her to freak out and go off on her own," I said to Pete.I finished church, and the men went to the bar. Void and Wrath were the only ones who went to their wives, while the boys already started drinking and groping the women. Bane was standing on the bar porch smoking, and I joined him.
"You have to promise me that you'll take care of Ivy if I can't," Bane said to me in a serious voice. "She's like my own child, and even though she comes across as rough...she's soft," he said, looking thoughtful.
"Promise," I told him, and he looked at me gratefully. Candy came over and rubbed her body against mine. Even though I had fun yesterday, I didn't feel like having her today.
"You should find someone else today," I said to her as I saw mom and Ivy walking towards us.I walked towards them and asked Ivy to come to the talk tomorrow, and mom handed me her suitcase. I could have had one of the prospects do this, but I did it anyway. Mom was talking about our home, and she seemed interested and asked questions.
When I heard her talking to mom, I noticed how soft her voice was, which I couldn't say about her fist. I smiled as I thought about how she had blown me away earlier. I didn't like it in front of my men, but she had a lot on her plate, I had to admit that. When we arrived at my parents' house, I put her suitcase down and just wanted to get away quickly. She looked at me with her big green eyes, and I didn't feel comfortable. When she called me and then said, "I'm sorry for earlier, I shouldn't have hit you," I was a little surprised. She looked like a child who had done something wrong and needed to apologize.
My ego was bruised when she hit me in front of my men, but I couldn't blame her. I shouldn't have yelled at her and insulted her, but I did it in a state of emotion and rage.
I could hardly take my eyes off her big green eyes, and her face looked so beautiful. Without the heavy makeup that other women around us use, she still looked much better. Her cheeks were flushed when I told her that she hits harder than some men, and she smiled at me when I laughed. When I went back to the bar, I didn't feel like partying. I didn't feel the need to be with Candy and definitely didn't feel like drinking alcohol. I closed the bar and sat alone inside with Duke, Ace, and Bane. Duke played with his knife while Ace did some tricks with his cards, as always.
"When her mother died, Jane was the only woman she had a connection with. The pain she felt made her what she is now. That's why she was the first to look for that bastard. Her father couldn't stop her, and that's why I came with her. She didn't want anyone with her, but she can't get rid of me. I'm her godfather," Bane said about Ivy. "Whatever you do here is none of our business, but this is your territory, and you know each other better, so Pete trusts you. And I do too... Only Ivy is different. Hard shell and soft core," added Bane.
"And a damn hard slap," I said, to which everyone laughed. "I just want you to explain it carefully tomorrow. I won't say anything to her, but Pete and you have to do it with feeling," Bane said, and I realized what he meant. He cared about her, and she went off without the consent of her father obviously.
When I sent Duke for her the next day, I saw the two of them walking down the street and wondered how best to tell her. I walked into the bar in front of them and decided to call Pete immediately. As we explained it to her, she suddenly stood up, knocking over a few chairs as she staggered toward the door. I dropped everything and followed her outside, and when I heard her gasping for air, I knew she was having a panic attack. Her eyes were pleading for help as I calmed her down, and I felt so sorry for her. She seemed strong and composed, but in reality, she was just very fragile. Her tears rolled down her cheeks, and I stroked her face with my thumbs, which made her squeeze tighter into my palms. I explained to her that this isn't the first time we've saved people, that's all I could tell her because I don't trust her with anything else yet. She looked pale, and I thought maybe Doc should check her out.
I took her in my arms and brought her to Doc; she just rested her head on my shoulder breathing heavily. And when I got to the clinic, Alice was awake.
"Look, Alice is awake," I said to her, and she turned her head towards her. Drew sat with her mother and Wrath and looked at Ivy.
"Did she save my mother?" asked my niece. I nodded, and Ivy smiled at the girl.
"What the hell did you do to her, you savage?" Alice asked with narrowed eyebrows.
"And she's back!" I said, laughing.
"It's okay, he helped me," I heard Ivy say, and I looked down at her while I was still holding her in my arms."I heard what happened last night, and thank you very much, Ivy. Without you and your friend, we would probably be dead. I owe you a lot," Alice said to Ivy who smiled at her.
Doc looked at me and then at Ivy, who I was still holding, and his face raised questions.
"Doc, she had a panic attack," I said to him as I took her into another room and laid her down on the bed.
"You know I can walk," Ivy said to me, and I winked at her as I said, "I know."
She smiled at me, and I just looked at her like an idiot, so I let her with Doc and walked back to Alice.Wrath took Drew to school, and I was able to let Alice in on everything because she insisted, but then her expression changed.
"Tom sent me an email this morning," she said quietly.
I knew she would go back to work as soon as she was awake, but this was very early. She took her laptop and opened it to read it aloud.
"I opened it before Drew came in so I didn't read all of it...But...They found a female body last night," she said. "Was it our protected one?" I asked her.
Alice shook her head, "He wrote that Dad called him last night because of someone missing. Tom said, The woman is... she is a missing one from Canada,'" she said.I heard glass shattering behind me and turned around only to see Ivy on the floor, and Doc kneeling next to her with the door open.
"Did she hear us?" I asked Doc, who gave me a confirming look.
"Bloody hell!" I called.
Alice got out of bed and stood next to us with her hand over her mouth, shocked at the blood on the floor. Ivy fell onto the glass vase behind her and cut herself pretty badly. Dad and Mom, who had just come into the house because of Alice, ran to us, and Mom helped Doc right away because she used to be a nurse."What happened?" Dad asked, and I looked at Alice who was staring at me.
"I think Jane is dead," I said to Dad, who was grabbing his forehead.
