Everyone made their way back home for dinner, before heading to bed.
All but a certain heir and a mighty warrior.
Neteyam couldn't sleep, he tried with all his might, but he just couldn't.
His mind was replaying the day, the way Aonung spoke and looked at him, it was entrancing.
The boy was both undeniably attractive and unbelievably kind.
He decided to go for a walk, maybe explore the village, get his baring.
Mostly to clear his howling mind. His family were all sound asleep, Loak snoring very loudly in the corner, Tuk cuddled up to Kiri, and his parents cuddling on their bed.
Getting out of his bed, he tip toed to the mauris opening.
Turning his head to make sure no one heard him and woke up. Walking slowly, successfully making his way outside into the night.
He wondered his way around the village mauris, observing everything. Taking precaution while walking along the path, fearing he might fall off the side.
After he walked around the whole village, he made his way down to the beach.
He walked through the shallows of the water, kicking his feet in the waves lapping against the shore.
Looking out into the horizon, the ocean lit up by the eclipse, bioluminescence floating on the surface of the water.
Neteyam found a soft spot of sand in front of a tree. Sitting down and resting his back against it.
Closing his eyes, relaxing in the calm, gentle sounds of the waves crashing against the shore.
For the first time in a while he felt at peace. His head was empty, no dangerous thoughts spiraling wildly through it.
He sat there for a while, before hearing foot steps.
Somehow he knew who they belonged to before seeing their face.
Opening his eyes, instantly meeting with the same ocean blue eyes.
"Hey Aonung" he spoke smiling
"Hey Neteyam" Aonung said smiling
"What are you doing up?" Neteyam asked
"Couldn't sleep. You?" Aonung replied
"Neither, I thought a walk would tire me out" Neteyam said smiling at the boy
"May I sit?" Aonung asked
"Of course" Neteyam said gesturing Aonung to sit beside him
Aonung sat down next to Neteyam, their eyes still connected.
"So what do you think of it here?" Aonung asked, making conversation.
"It's ok, its not home, but it's beautiful, I like it" Neteyam responded
"Miss home huh?" Aonung asked
"I miss it a lot, my grandma is there" Neteyam responded
"Just your grandma, not any friends?" Aonung asked a little confused
"I've never had any real friends, no one who was actually there for me" Neteyam spoke, frowning at the memories.
"Why's that?" Aonung asked
"They liked my title, so they used me for their own gain" Neteyam frowned.
"Why would someone use a kind boy like you?" Aonung asked.
"I don't know, I never did anything wrong" Neteyam said.
"I have no doubt on that" Aonung said
"All I ever did was protect my people and my family. Was I ever thanked?" Neteyam said pausing "No I wasn't" he added, his lips pursed together in a sarcastic grin.
"I'm sorry" Aonung said frowning
"What are you saying sorry for? It's not your fault" Neteyam asked, his eyebrows furrowed in slight confusion
"Because you didn't need to go through that" Aonung said sympathetically
"I've been through worse, trust me" Neteyam said
"Exactly my point. You give your everything to everyone, and no one appreciates it. I know how that feels and no one deserves that" Aonung said
"It's hard, but I get by. I usually just ignore it, focus on my duties, you know" Neteyam stated
"You shouldn't have to, you should be appreciated for everything you do, even though it's not your job" Aonung said
"Thank you Aonung, I appreciate it" Neteyam smiled
"Your welcome Neteyam" Aonung smiled
