I was running as fast as I could.
I was about to achieve my dream (which was NOT my original dream, just to be clear). My journey had taken me to the highest point in my region: Mount Coronet. Everything was going exactly how I had planned... and then it didn't.
Hold up. You (yes you, the reader) are probably very confused as to what is actually happening right now; I would be, too. This would all make sense to you if I start very beginning instead of the climax, right? Ask and you shall receive.
This whole mishap started a few months ago, when I had just turned thirteen. I was not interested in becoming "the very best" as one would expect from a regular boy who liked Pokémon (strange creatures that have special powers and abilities). I just wanted a normal life, living in peace with people and Pokémon alike. However, fate had different plans for me.
My hometown was suddenly rampaged by Pokémon who were out of control when I was eleven. I'm not exactly sure how they were brainwashed, but when I'm old enough, I will find out how to stop the Pokémon who have been mind-controlled so that wouldn't happen to anyone else. That was my goal.
That's why I volunteered to be a researcher for Professor Rowan. He was very knowledgeable about many different topics and I was hoping this would be one of them. However, he has been very busy recently and needed multiple people at all times to help him with his unknown project. He was very vague with his descriptions of his needs and demanded there to be no questions asked.
As curious as us helpers were, we knew that once the Professor made up his mind, there was no changing him. Although I sometimes did hear him mutter some strange things such as "Where's Champion Michael when you need him?" When I heard him mention the champion, I knew it had to be serious...
Champion Michael (AKA: Mikey) was the leader of an ex-evil organization called "Team Sky", with the goal of "expanding the skies". No one really understood what he meant by that, but we all went along with it because he had achieved so many helpful accomplishments to the whole world, not just Sinnoh. We called him our champion because he wanted to make his headquarters atop the tallest mountain: Mount Coronet. (Not to mention we kind of feared him because he had a team chock-full of powerful legendaries.)
Anyway, my original goal was not going very well. I hadn't had any sort of opportunity to ask Professor Rowan about the rampaging mind-controlled Pokémon. I decided that I needed to get him to trust me so that he could actually tell me what's going on. And to do that, I figured it was best to get him happy.
My next door neighbor, Felix, suddenly came bursting into Professor Rowan's lab. "Professor! Professor Rowan!" Felix cried. "Jubilife City has just been under attack by rampaging Pokémon!"
"What?!" Professor Rowan yelled. "We must head there immediately!" I had a gut feeling that this chance could get me one step further to figuring out the truth and possibly help me find my goal as well, so I volunteered eagerly to go with Felix.
"You can count on us, sir," I told him. "Felix and I'll find a way to stop those Pokémon." "Excellent. We're all counting on you. Do you have any Pokémon to help you?" he asked. "Well..." I had only been an assistant in his research, and didn't actually own any Pokémon. I have only been using the ones that the Professor had lent me to borrow. "Here," he said. "You can choose one of these three to keep: Chimchar, Piplup, or Turtwig."
I couldn't believe how cute they were! There was no way I could choose only one. In the end, I decided to go with Chimchar because he was adorable, but he also looked like he could pack quite a punch. Professor Rowan also gave me a device called a Pokédex, which I could use to record data and help with research, and a handful of Pokéballs. "Good luck. We're all counting on you," he said.
"I'll do my best, sir. I promise I won't let you down."
