Making sure my team could cover each other's weaknesses, I trained and defeated all of the necessary gym trainers to get to Crasher Wake.
"Haha! You made it, challenger!" he welcomed me. "Just what I'd expect from you. Water (A/N: What are) you waiting for? Let's get you in the splash zone!" That one got a slight chuckle out of me. "You're getting better at these puns, Crasher Wake," I complimented him. "Go, Luxio!" "I like you, kid. Show 'em whatcha got, Gyarados!" he called.
"Luxio, Double Team!" I ordered. Luxio made a bunch of duplicates of itself and surrounded Wake's Gyarados. "Counter with Dragon Tail, Gyarados," he said.
I smirked. Gyarados' tail glowed a hue of green and swiped at all of the Luxio duplicates. It was too late, however, because the real Luxio had already jumped high and had a Thunder Fang attack at the ready. "Now!" I attacked. It dove headfirst at the Gyarados' stomach, landing a critical hit.
"Alright, Luxio! Now use Quick Attack!" "Dodge, then use Ice Fang," called Crasher Wake. When Luxio jumped and tried to attack, Gyarados made a circle with its body and my Luxio dove right through the center.
"Luxio, behind you!" I tried to call out to it. But I was too late, and Luxio was hit by the Ice Fang. "Hang in there, please. Try Thunder Fang," I asked. "Not so fast. Water Pulse," Wake countered. The moves cancelled each other out.
"Keep making clones with Double Team to surround Gyarados."
"The same trick won't work on me twice, kid," taunted the water-type gym leader. "Who said it was the same?" I smirked again. "Luxio clones, have Thunder Fang at the ready, but don't use it yet!" I commanded. "What?!" Crasher Wake was stunned.
"Shoot them up in the air to combine them above Gyarados, then attack!" I wasn't even sure this was going to work, but I was gonna give it a shot. The Luxios indeed shot them up together to form a completely electric, somehow sentient, monster, which then fell upon Crasher Wake's Pokémon, ultimately knocking it out.
"I... but... what..." was all he could say after returning his giant beast of the sea. "Heh. You remind me of this one trainer a while back who used to come up with crazy tactics like that." I knew exactly who he was talking about: the former world champion before Mikey.
"I may have a few more tricks up my sleeve," I chuckled. "Who's your next Pokémon? I'm staying with Luxio."
"Try this on for size. Go..."
