“Don’t say things like that, ’Ma!” sambit ni Eury na may bahid ng pag-aalala sa ina.

“My first love could be killed, Eury. I once believed that he’s really dead, and right now, I don’t want to feel the same trauma again when he begged me to save his life and just run away.” Desiree’s voice was cracking; she felt a thorn that raged inside her heart, making her feel pain again.

“A-anong dapat nating gawin, Rio?” Eury looked so sad. Rio heard her sighed, and seconds later, a tear escaped from her eyes.

“Siguro... Siguro wala na tayong magagawa, ’nak. The killer is on his way to Crisinito. He fooled us already; the thought that he set himself as bait was so unexpected. Ang akala ko, magiging target niya si Hermiso Evaldez, but it was him. The killer is supposed to make us all believe him.”

“No, we could still save him. Pupuntahan ko ulit ang opisina ni Senator De Guzman, I’ll save him... I’ll save him for you...”

“But it’s too late now, Eury! Look at this right now! Nawalan na ng malay si Crisinito, paano mo pa siya maililigtas?” sigaw ni Desiree habang pinapakita ang video footage na nilagay ni Eury sa mismong cellphone nito. “How am I supposed to stay calm?” dagdag pa niyang anas.

Desiree shooked her head in dismay and started washing her face. Thoughts fled into her mind as she think only of Crisinito.

“Tinatakot niya lang tayo. It’s obvious that he’s making us panic while he’s busy laughing. What an idiot!” Rio clenched his fist because of his frustration.

Eury’s eyes landed on him, and he saw her. That’s why she just pretended to roll her eyes.

“Feeling ko nga rin na patibong niya lamang ang pagtangka niya sa buhay ni Senator De Guzman. I mean, there’s no hard evidence yet,” Eury said.

“It’s hard to conclude—”

She was shouting insanely, enough for the two of them to hear her.

“No! No!” Crisinito’s dead?!” Desiree shouted like she was chanting.

“’Ma? A-anong nangyari? Bakit po kayo sumisigaw?”

“Tingnan mo ang video footage! He pulled the trigger, and his blood was on the floor. I think he’s dead already,” sigaw ni Desiree.

“No, I know he’s alive. I know, I just know... I need to save him for you.”

“Eury, saan ka pupunta?” Rio shouted, but she didn’t listen.

Seconds later, Eury’s feet were unknowingly moving. Her feet dragged her to what her mind was dictating.

Another few seconds passed, and she bumped into something she’d never expected. She thought it was just a familiar face; she thought she’s just hallucinating... but she wasn’t. She knew that it was him.

“S-Simone?”
