The crash shatters the silence, Lute and Y/N both freeze, looking in the direction of the outburst.

"Lute?" Calls out an angel, taking off their helmet and walking around the corner. At first they seem to assume the place is empty but then when they look over in Y/N's direction, they snarl.

"Ugh, finish that one off and let's get out of this place. It smells like mold." They huff, flipping their hair and waiting for Lute to strike.

But, Lute pauses. She begins panicking.

On one hand, she doesn't want to stab her again, on the other, if she don't that means she risks a lot of trouble.

"Lute?"

The angel breaks the silence.

"Lute, kill it so we can leave."

"Shit..."

Lute mutters, bringing her staff up, and turning toward Y/N.

Lutes arms are still up, but they just can't bear to go down.

"Lute? What the fuck? Kill it for the holy lands sake-"

"I...Can't..." Lute clenches her teeth, her expression displaying her panic.

"What? L...Lute... You..." The angel seems to be caught of guard. They chuckle awkwardly. "Heh, stop joking around, Lute."

Y/N shakes their head rapidly, realizing she should run. She stands up slowly before booking it towards a flight of stairs.

"Oh, shit, Lute you let it get away!"

The angel starts chasing her, but it suddenly met with an unexpected intervention.

Lute  runs after them, grabbing them by the neck and holding them back. They bring their arms up in attempt to pull her off.

"Lute! Let, go! What the fuck is wrong with you!?"

They shout, seeing Y/N's head poke around the corner.

They pull their spear up to defend themselves, but they can't find the strength to keep their arm up when their vision begins going dark...

"Did you...Kill them?" Y/N questions, stepping off the last step and and looking down at the unconscious body.

"I...I don't know. But if I didn't, we're gonna make sure we do. I'm not letting this one of all things ruin my life."

Y/N internally snickers, she's not sure why, but it's something about Lutes bluntness and attitude that she finds very charming. Though, she didn't really think so at the time, in fact, she was still quite intimidated by her.

"Well...here, let me check." Y/N says, stepping toward the body and checking for a pulse. "There's a faint pulse." Before Y/N could say anything else, Lute plunges her spear into the angels chest.

This elicits a surprised squeak from Y/N, who now had some blood splattered on her face. "Oh, ew!" She cries, wiping it off with her sleeve and looking at her sleeve with a disgusted expression.

"Oh get over it. You're just lucky this isn't you."

"Well, why isn't it?"

Lute sighs.

"Look, just be grateful I'm helping you in the first place. I saved your ass, so don't question me."

Y/N is a tad put off by this. Of course, she only just met this woman, though she still would have expected that since she's at Lute's mercy, Lute wouldn't need to hide anything. I mean, if your a hostage, your kidnapper isn't gonna  be like, 'Oh, well, your just lucky I haven't stabbed you yet, so don't ask questions.' Because if they regret what they say they can just kill you on the spot.

Lute looks out the window. The slaughtering is still commencing. "Alright, look. I'm guessing we've got thirty more minutes of this before they open up the portal and I have to go back. In the meantime, I'm gonna make sure you don't get yourself killed." Lute crosses her arms. "Heavenly lord forbid I killed another angel just for you to end up dying anyway."

Y/N rolls her eyes. But more so in an amused way than an irritated way. Lute extends her hand, helping Y/N off the floor before dusting off her shoulder. "Okay, so, here's the plan. We're gonna go upstairs until we find a room with no windows so we don't deal with another one of these incidents...."

Lute continues blabbing about the plan, but Y/N tunes it out with her own thoughts. She was struggling to process why this literal exterminator was sparing her. Why she was killing for her? Wouldn't it just be easier to kill her instead? Why was she risking he-

"Hey! Are you even listening...er...fuck, what's your name?"

Y/N shakes her head, snapping out of her trance. "Oh, Y/N. Sorry."

"Right, well, listen Y/N, we're gonna go find a room and wait this shit out."

"Won't the other angels wonder where you are?"

"The other angels are to busy stabbing the fuck out of you freaks to notice."

Y/N snickers. Although the Extermination was a horrible day, she still found that bluntness amusing.

Lute leads the way up the stairs, occasionally fluttering her wings behind her, hitting Y/N in the face. But, she ignored that. As easy as it would've been to simply move aside, she just let it happen.

"Aha! Over here!" Lute gestures to a broom closet. There seems to be enough room to sit in their comfortably.

Y/N follows in, Lute sits in one corner, Y/N sits in the other.

Finally, she had some time to theorize.

Why was Lute sparing her? Ma-

"Oh my heavens!"

Fuck.

There was a shout from the lower floor.

"Hey! ...... over here! Someone killed....!"

"......Holy shit!.......How..........?"

While Y/N couldn't exactly hear some things, it became clear that other angels had found the body.
