"Did I do something wrong?" I said.

After the incident with that kid, I took the liberty of solving the issue myself. There I was, behind the school with just the theater kid. I tossed the rest of my so-called "friends" to the side, having deemed them as useless. Although, that was obvious from the beginning.

The kid said nothing to me and only whimpered. I cocked my head to the side, waiting for an answer. When I grew impatient, I tightened my grip on the back of his head and yanked him back by his hair. His teary eyes settled on mine, to which I grinned.

I pursed my lips, pretending to be sympathetic. "Was it something I said? I don't recall doing anything to you."

"How can you not remember what you did to me?!" he whined. "You lied about wanting to act and hurt me!"

"No, no, no. " I shook my head and squatted down to his level. "I never lied. I really did want to act." A toothy smile spread from my lips. "I just never told you how I wanted you to teach me."

"You- You're crazy!" he stammered.

"And if anyone here is a liar, it's you." I brushed his hair back, wanting to get a good look at his crying face then. "You said you wouldn't tell anyone about me coming to you for acting tips. It's embarrassing, you see. I'm a little shy..."

His lips quivered as my tone changed. The smile I once had faded, leaving only a solemn expression. "But you just had to go and run your mouth."

My fist raised up slowly, preparing to strike that kid dead in the nose. His eyes clamped shut, ready to take the hit. I started to cackle, finding his expression then to be hilarious.

However, the moment I finally swung, the hard toe of a shoe connected with my forearm. It sent me barreling backwards and I was forced to release the kid. I stared down at my own arm, disgusted by the redness that appeared from the impact. I looked up to find who my attacker was, and to my surprise, it was a girl.

She narrowed her eyes at me before turning her attention to the boy on the ground. I had sworn that I had seen her prior to that moment, but it took me a few brief seconds before it finally clicked.

It was the new girl in our grade. By that time, it was only a week since she had transferred to our school. And it seemed that she already wanted to get on my nerves. Having decided to step in for the kid automatically made her my next prey.

I let them escape that day. I watched as she helped the boy up, running away with him as I sat on the ground in silence. I stared down at my arm, and its redness reminded me of my new peaked interest.

That girl had made an expression I had never seen before. One that was filled with determination and anger. One that showed me that she wasn't afraid of me. It was something new to me, and that made me excited.
