"IT SEEMED OTHERWISE TO THE GODS."
Monday, October 30th
"I can't believe I'm wasting time on this guy on my birthday," I hear an Australian say.
My eyes are not quite open yet as I struggle to regain consciousness. I feel an intense throbbing in the center of my forehead, telling me that I've been struck quite hard. When my eyes flicker open, I'm met by the sight of a pair of shoes in front of me.
I raise my head up to look at who they belong to, and it is none other than the leader of the Vipers. He doesn't say a word to me as I glance around the space.
It looks an awful lot like the warehouse I visited once before. He is not the only one here with me, though. To his right is his blond husband. Behind them far off to the side are two women that I do not recognize. By them are the redhead, and the man who posed as my secretary before.
Then, she catches my eyes. Off in the far corner of the room is Mavis. She pulls at her lips nervously, watching me with a careful gaze.
Dawson kicks my shin. "You awake?" I grimace at the sharp pain, and I send him a glare.
He stuffs his hands into his pockets. "We have decided to help you out here, Mr. Montell-" Dawson looks around at his friends. "And by we, I mean everyone except Sage has decided to spare you."
When I glance behind him, I see the redhead sending death threats through his glare. What surprises me, however, is how he is the only one who still wishes to kill me. This is especially surprising considering the damage I caused to Finn.
It's not my fault he got in my way.
"I'll cut straight to the chase," Dawson starts. "We're sending you to receive help. And if you refuse to do so, we'll no longer be as merciful as we are now."
"Help for what?" I ask cluelessly.
"Is this guy serious?" Sage fumes, being held back by one of the women.
Mavis cautiously approaches Dawson. She puts a hand on his shoulder and avoids my eyes.
"Let me talk to him," she says. "Alone."
Though hesitant, Dawson agrees to her request. They all leave the room, closing the door behind them. Finally, Mavis faces me, and I stare up at her with a sleepless smile.
"Eros," she says my name softly.
It echoes like a lullaby in my head. "Hm?"
"This will be good for you," Mavis assures me.
"A mental hospital will do me no favors," I reject, wanting to play a bit longer. "You're the only thing good for me."
A sharp sigh escapes her lips. "Give it a chance. The others won't be as kind to you as I am."
