Love at the Sea

Twenty-one: Leilani

He started to lean down and I lifted my head and closed my eyes. I felt him coming closer and then I hear the door open. "Time to go," Kanoe says and I guess he wasn't facing us because he then said, "Sorry, did I ruin your moment?" Kalei turned around still having his arm around me and said, "You could have came two seconds later." I smiled and said, "I guess it's time to go."

When we get on the plane I sit on the window seat again and next to me is Kalei. Behind us was Makana and Kanoe, who both fell asleep immediately. My parents and Kalei's parents sat behind them, our mothers together and our fathers together. 

I leaned on Kalei and say, "I don't want to leave." He kisses my head and says, "Then we'll have to come back here soon." I close my eyes and a single tear escapes and slides down my cheek. 

The flight seems to be the one thing that keeps us together. Sure we live really close but when can we see each other? When can we be together? Will school prevent that? I'm not ready to move schools yet. I want to stay. I want to stay. I want to stay! My eyes fly open and I look a Kalei, he was sleeping.

 "We will start our descent, please fasten your seat belts." I hear and then I whisper to Kalei, not knowing if he can hear, if he is listening. "We're back." His eyes open. He nodded and said, "Tomorrow morning can I still pick you up?" I looked down and said, "If I'm too scared to driving I'll call okay?" I looked up to see him looking directly at me. 

I smiled, "Can you really not read my thoughts anymore?" I ask and he says, "I can but I'm scared to read them." "Why?" I asked and he says, "Because it's too sad." I smile but I can feel tears threatening to come out. Kalei covers my eyes with his hand. 

"If you cry now, I'll never let you leave. If someone starts to bully you tell me and I'll come there immediately, Okay?" That made me laugh, though it was short I'm sure the tear in my eyes started to diminish. "I love you," Kalei whispered to me. I smile and say, "I love you too."

My family got dropped off first. 

I immediately went to my room and looked in my closet for the clothes I'm going to wear. I stare at my clothes then hear a knock. "You're father would like to know if you are taking your new car tomorrow." 

I look at my mom and say, "I'm scared to drive." She nods and says, "You want Kalei to drive you?" I nod, "Good," my mom says, "I'll call Kalei." I look at her and she hugs me, "I know you're scared, but once you make some friends the scariness of a new school will go way. You'll be fine." 

My mom is right I will be fine. "Mommy, I'm scared." "Shh, shh I know, sweetie, I know." My mom gives me one more big hug and walks out of the room. I pick up my phone and call Kalei. "Lei, what's wrong?" "Nothing, I just... I just didn't know what to wear tomorrow." 

"Open the door and I'll help you," he says. I walk to my door and opened it to see Kalei outside my door with his arms open I hug him and say, "I wish this weekend never ended." "Me too," he whispered, "Me too. " I held his hand and lead him to my closet and then sat back on my bed. Kalei pulled out a shirt and said, "I remember this." He held it up for me, it was my below the elbow cut off panda shirt, the sleeves were dark blue, Kalei got me that so I would stop crying about my one B- on my presentation.

"Stop crying, everyone gets Bs all the time, at least you didn't get a C." "C??? A B- is pretty much a C." "I don't want this grade," I told him while we walked around Kams. Those days were when Kalei didn't have any practices or game because the seasons were all over. 

One week before finals begin. I got to have one week of Kalei and I hanging out. I was crying when Kalei comes out of no where and holds out a bag from the store. I open it and pull on the contents which was a that panda shirt which made me smile. "When did you get this?" He looked down and I swear he blushed, "A couple days ago, I thought it would look cute on you. Do you like it?"

 I wiped the tears off my face, put the bag by my bag and hugged him. "Thanks." I let go of him and just looked at him and smiled, the I-love-this-guy smile, that I know he likes to see me in. I never really got the chance to wear it at school though because of the uniform. But if could, I would wear it all the time.

He handed me the shirt and said, "Wear this." I looked at him and he continued, "I never got to see you wear it yet." I put the shirt on my bed then sat back down on it and asked, "Shorts or jeans?" "Black jeans." I nodded and picked them out. 

Placed it next to my shirt. "Earrings?" He walked over to my dresser and picked up a pair of earrings, "Where did you get these?" I walked up to my dresser and he picked up two black dangling earrings with a black bow, with a blue stud in the middle, on each ones at the end. 

"Oh those, um I think Makana gave me those. She said, 'I saw these in the store and I thought it would be perfect for you. Also these are the last ones, they don't make this earring design anymore.' Why?" He put the earrings down and said, "I went shopping on time with Makana because I think you were busy and I saw this at the store. I was gonna buy them for you but when I went back the next day it was already sold." I grabbed his hand he looked at me.

 I smiled, "Thank you of thinking of me." He hugged me and said, "Always." At that moment my dad came in and said, "Time to sleep." I didn't want Kalei to go. But he walked out of my room and then peaked his head back in my room before closing the door.

"Good night." Before he got to close it and walked up to him and hugged him. "Good night," I said though it was probably muffle cause I said it to his shirt. He picked me up and hugged me harder and then put me down then leaned over and kissed me on my cheek. "Kalei, time to sleep!" I hear my mom yelling from downstairs. "Okay, good night Lei." He smiled and then picked me up and placed me in my bed then put my clothes on my desk chair. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

"Don't leave me!" Please I don't want to be alone. Don't leave, please.

"Lei, it's time wake up." I opened my eyes Kalei is sitting on my bed. "Why are you crying?" I touched my cheek and said, "Scary dream." 

He wiped my cheeks and said, "Well it's time to wake up." I blink, why is Kalei in my room? I pulled off my covers then the cold hit me and I pulled the covers back on. Kalei just laughs at me. 

"Leilani and Kaleikoa time to get ready. Lei, I'll go to the school to pick you up today, I need to talk to the principle." I nod and then get up. I pulled Kalei up and shoved him out of my room.
