Love at the Sea

Five: Leilani

Kalei finally comes out but he just walks directly to the couch. I stand up and hugged Makana, "Good night."

She walked out with me to her room and before I left the room I turned, smiled and said, "Happy Birthday again," he looked up and smiled but his eyes was sad.

After he realized I was looking in his eyes he immediately looked down to avoid my eyes. My smile dies and then I turned around and said, "Thanks for taking me surfing." I started to walk away then I heard him get up.

"Lei, even if we're not going to the same I'll still take you to prom." He hugged me from behind and walked out of the room.

I turned around and walked back to the couch and took a pillow and cried.

"Leilani, it's time to wake up." I opened my eyes and saw Makana. "Come on sweetie, Kalei is getting ready to go to school and so should you."

I look up and say in a small, tired voice, "I don't want to go to school."

I got up and walked to her room and lay down on her bed and cried. After I cried I crawled under the sheets and fell asleep. Then I hear a soft knock. "Makana, I'm going to school now, I can't find Lei so I'm assuming she left already. See you later."

When he finished I heard his footsteps. "Lei, I called your teacher and told her you're coming in late." I pull off the sheets, "I think he heard us talking last night." "Oh, sweetie," she walked over to me and hugged me.

After hugging for ten minutes we both got out of her bed and I went to get ready. Afterwards we get into her car and we go to get food.

When we get to Kam's Shopping center she parks in front of Starbucks and we get out.

"Next." We walk up to the counter and Makana orders first, "One venti Cookie Dough Frappuccino, one venti Green Dream Frappuccino, two chocolate filled croissants and five blueberry scones." Wow, so much why?

"Anything else?"

Makana looked at me and I say, "Hi, can I have a venti Caramel Frappuccino and a Raspberry Swirl Pound Cake." "The total comes to $25.73, out of $30. Your change is $4.27."

We go to the side and Makana gets a call. She walks to the side and just then I get a call. "Hello?" "Lei, where are you?" It's Chelsea. "I'm at Starbucks with Makana."

There was a pause with voices in the background then I hear to phone being passed to someone else. "Lei? Which Starbucks are you at? I'll pick you up." "It's okay, Makana will take me to school." "Are you sure? I can get a pass."

"One venti Cookie Dough Frappuccino, one venti Green Dream Frappuccino, one venti Caramel Frappuccino, one Raspberry Swirl Pound Cake, two Chocolate filled Croissants and five Blueberry Scones. "Sorry, I have to go. I guess I'll see you later."

Before he could say anything else I hung up. I picked up our order and walked out to the car where Makana is already in.

Inside I give her the bag and she takes out her drink and she switches one of the croissants for two scones and hands me back the food and says, "The cookie dough frappe, the croissants, and scones are Kalei's so please give them to him for me."

I nodded, I guess I'll have to see him today.

After getting dropped off I walk into the office to sign myself in and text Kalei to meet me by my locker. Once I get there I see him standing there.

"Morning." He looks up and smiles.

I hand him the drink and food and then I open my locker and put the food inside and take out my books for my next class, which are AP Calculus, AP Government, and AP Physics. I close my locker and walk passed Kalei to my class.

We never really talk at school due to the fact that we are on two different levels of the social scale. "Lei, wait."

I turn around and immediately the bell rings and the hallway fills with students. I wait there until I can no longer see him in the crowd and then turned back around and walked to my next class.

I have Chelsea in my Calc class and she immediately hugs me right before I sit down.

"I can't believe you're leaving next week!" I look at her and she says, "Kalei told me." We hug and then I say, "We'll talk and text everyday right?" She nods her head and say, "Of course!!"
