She watches him as he paddles out to sea, towards his friends. The wind blows as she watches both him and his friends paddle further out into the ocean. Her white dress bellows in the wind as her hair does the same. He and his friends stop lifted themselves so they are now sitting on their boards facing the horizon. She leans her back on the coconut tree.

The sun is almost about to set when one of his friends point to a wave. They all look at the wave as it comes closer. He leans on the board and paddles out to the wave. Closer and closer the wave comes to him, he dives with his board, turns around underwater, so now both him and the board turn around to face the shore. He then leans in and plants his hands on the board then pushes off. He stands and rides the wave to shore. His two friends cheer, then one say, "Let's call it a day, it's getting late." He turns around still sitting on the board and yells over to his friend and says, "'Kay then."

They all paddle to shore and one at a time they all get out of the water. She continues to stand there. The wind dies down into a soft breeze and all she can see on the horizon is the sun setting. Beautiful array of orange, golden yellow, and pink light the sky as the sun continues to set. She hears the guys load their boards into their trucks. They bicker about school the next day. She listens while she moves from where she was standing and walks to the sand then takes a seat on the sand and looks out to the sunset. As she watches she hears the guys say their goodbyes to each other.

A few minutes right before the sun completely sets he sits next to her. He smells like the ocean. She smiles. They sit there together as the sun dips into the ocean with a green flash.

"Aloha, Leilani. I didn't think you would come out here today," he says. Leilani turns and looks at him. Then looks back out to the ocean and with a small laugh says, "You know you have to take me home right?" He laughs then leans over and whispers into her ear, "You have to say please first." He sent chills down her spine. She turns to face him, his face is close to her. The wind starts to blow again, fiercer this time which in turn makes her shiver. He notices and laughs again. She turns her head again and says, "I hope you know, I hate you." Then gets up. "Lei, Lei come on wait, I'm sorry okay."

He grabs her arm and holds it, as he tries to will her to face him. She finally turns and he says, "You know I'll always take you home." He gives her his one-of-a-kind smile, the one he knows will always make her stop being mad at him. It's a winning smile between all of their little fights. She looks at him, she's still a little hurt but there's nothing she can do, when he smiles like that she can never be mad at him.

She smiles back at him then says, "Can we pick up food?" He laughs then says, "Sure, since you waited for me I'll pay." She smiles, her innocent child smile he loves seeing her in. They walk together to his truck. He holds open the door for her and when she gets in he closes it and tells her while he gets into the drivers seat, "I have a blanket in the back, want me to get it?" She shivers again and then shakes her head.

He gets out, hops on the back of his truck then hops back out. He walks to the drivers seat again and gets in. Hands her the blanket then turns on the ignition. She puts the blanket around her shoulders, its nice, warm and smells like the ocean.
