Sixteen: Kaleikoa

While walking to the parking lot we passed by a group of people.

"Kaleikoa? Is that you?" We all stopped and Leilani turns around.

All I see is a girl with light blue shorts and a cream color flowy top. Her arms open and she hugs me.

When she releases me I look at Lei and she was looks at a flower vase so tensely. "Leilani, is that you?"

Lei looks at the girl and says in her casual yet spiteful voice, "Yes, and who are you?"

The girl laughed, "Don't you remember me?"

She tossed her long curly dirty blonde hair over her shoulders and smiled. Then turned to me and said, "Kaleikoa, you remember me right?"

I shook my head and smiled my sorry-who-are-you-smile. That wiped her smile clean off her face.

I feel my arm being pulled, I look over and see Lei on my arm. She looks at me with her you-know-her-look.

I shook my head but I don't think she believes me, I can't blame her at school we are in two different worlds of the social scale.

Makana walks next to Lei and says, "Not to be rude but we are kind of in a rush and it seems neither my brother nor Leilani remembers you. So we will be taking our leave."

The girl's face is still blank and as we walk away I hear, "That's right it has been a while."

I see Lei turn around and then she says in a sharp voice I never heard her use before, "Did you say something?"

Her words sounded like toxic venom to my ears. I turn to Makana and said her, "What's with Lei?"

Kanoe walked next to Lei and whispered something in her ear.

Makana came up to me and she said, "I only heard Lei used that voice when she feels threatened. Who is the girl?"

Threatened? Lei feels threatened?

"No, sorry. I don't remember." We all look at Lei.

The girl looks at Lei and says, "How do you not remember, me? We used to go to school together back in eighth grade, back then I had really blonde hair. We went to school together, though I only stayed here for half the year. I'm Kimberly, Kimberly Perry."

Now I remember her. "Sorry, I forgot who you are," I say, "It's been awhile, what are you doing here?"

I walk up to Lei and look at her, but before I say anything I look at her face.

Something's wrong. "Kimberly, oh right, the blonde girl," Lei says her voice sounds pure evil.

I backed up.

Makana walks past me to Lei and whispered something in Lei. Lei gives a sharp look at Makana and says something.

Makana shakes her head and says, "Not here, Lei." Lei then looks at Kimberly and says, "Sorry, but we have to go."

She waves and grabs my hand.

We continue walking to the car and before I can turn my head around Lei says in a sharp tone, "Don't you dare turn around."

I look to her then the ground.

I've never seen or heard Lei so angry, I wonder why.

When we got in the car.

Kanoe and Kainoa sits in the front. Makana walks to the other side and then I go into the car before Lei, which I realized later that, that was a bad idea.

"Lei, you need to calm down," Makana says. I look at my sister and ask, "Why is Lei so mad?" Makana shakes her head and says, "Remember how Kimberly never left you alone and went with you everywhere?"

I nod slowly as I remember how she always clung to me so Lei and I couldn't even be alone just to hangout, until we got picked up but even after we went home she never talked to me.

She would always talk to my sister and then my sister would relay the message.

Lei's still not mad about that is she? "Lei, why are you so mad at her?"

Lei glares at me and then looks at Makana.

I look at my sister and she shakes her head. We pull over to a place called "Moonstruck Patisserie."

Everyone files out of the car and Lei starts talking to Kainoa and I hear bits and pieces of their conversation, "We mind as well tell him now, Lei. He deserves to know why you hate her." "Well, it's partly his fault I hate her."

Kainoa looks over to me and shakes his head. Then he says, "It's time he needs to know Lei. No questions."

She looks over to me and then to Kai and glares at him. "Fine, you win. Have fun telling him."

Was she mad at me?
