Ellis PoV:
I'm Elli, well Elora actually but nobody ever calls me that. Except my dad, when he's mad, wich is most of the time.
But it's my fault.
I don't always know how to behave correctly so he helps me remember.
Last week though was a little rougher than usual. Well not really rougher per say but it just won't stop hurting this time. He got me pretty bad on my side and the pain has gotten unbearable. I'm usually really good at handling it but this one, this one's different.
I saw a post about a free clinic at station 19, which is right around the corner from my house and decided to check it out after dad left for work.I waited until I was sure he had left and walked the short way there.
Two women sat at a table doing reception.
"Hi there, do you have an adult with you?" One of them asked. I shook my head in response nervous that they might try to reach him.
"Okay, you can just go sit on those chairs over there and someone is going to come get you soon" The other woman said.
I nodded this time and silently went to wait where she told me to.
A few minutes later a tall brown haired woman in a coat came over to me.
"Hello there, I'm doctor Carina DeLuca, you can come on back with me." She said kindly and I followed her.
I sat down in a chair and she sanitised her hands and put on gloves while asking me questions. "What's your name?"
"Elli" I answered. "And how old are you Elli?" "Eleven."
She came over and sat down on a stool next to me.
"Where are your parents today? Why didn't they come here with you?" She asked. "They don't have time." I lied.
She luckily decided not to push for the real reason and carried on.
"Alright so, what seems to be the problem?"
"Uhhmm my side hurts a bit." I understated. "Can you pull up your shirt for me please?" She asked kindly.
I did so, turned away and closed my eyes.
She touched my rib cage lightly and I flinched away in pain. "How did this happen Elli?" She asked with a serious tone of voice.
"I...I fell." I stuttered.
"And what about this?" She asked, examining the other side. I had a bunch of older bruises there. "I'm clumsy." Was the best thing I came up with in the moment.
"You can pull your shirt back down now." She said and took off her gloves.
I breathed a sigh of relief and opened my eyes again.
"Elli, are you sure your parents aren't available? Because I think your ribs might be broken. At least cracked. But I can't be sure without an X-ray at the hospital."
I immediately got scared.
"No! No hospital!" I said, about to get off the chair.
She put her hand on my arm to settle me a bit. "Hey it's ok, there's nothing to be afraid of. It's just going help you." She tried to explain. I shook my head and a single tear trickled down my cheek.
"Why don't you stay here for a little bit and think about it?" I'll go help another patient and be back in a bit, ok?" She asked while looking at me with her beautiful brown eyes.
I thought about it for a second but agreed.
She left and I had this weird feeling about wanting her back here with me. She feels so safe.Carinas PoV:
I quickly walked over to where Ben was working on a patient. "Ben! I need to talk to you." I said, leaning into the makeshift hospital room. He looked a bit confused. "Uhhmm okay, just give me a second."
He answered and came towards me a little while later. We walked somewhere more private and I started to tell him everything.
"So, there's this patient, eleven year old called Elli. She has at least two cracked ribs and doesn't want to go to the hospital."
"How does an eleven year old crack two ribs?" He asked, now concerned.
"She said she fell. I think someone's seriously hurting her Ben." I was shaking a bit. This beautiful little girl with her blue eyes and long brown hair is being hurt by someone. God I hate this world we live in.An:
