Chapter 3: The Infected

         Jax is laying on a cot in the tent, staring up, thinking. Jax looks to his side and stares at a key on a small table. "...the keys..." Jax thinks to himself. Jax sits up and walks over the the small table and picks up the key, thinking about the exit... and how much more desperately they need it. "Jax!" Ragatha calls from outside the text.
 
        Jax's ears perk up from his name being called and he steps out of the tent. "What is it, Ragatha...?" Jax asks, putting the key in his pocket. "We ran out of food... could you and Pomni go and get some more...?" Ragatha asks. "Yeah..." Jax replied and he gets a bag, and walks over to Pomni, who is sitting near the fire. "Okay, Pomni... you ready to go?" Jax asks.

      Pomni looks up at Jax and stands. "Yeah..." Jax motions for Pomni to follow and he slowly walks through the dead forest. Pomni looks around and she looks at the sky. The moon is broken and glitching, and the sun's light pulsates, glitching as well. "Jax... what happened to the sun and moon...?" Pomni asks. "When Caine got infected... he flew up there and destroyed them..." Jax replied.

       "Where is Caine now...?" Pomni asked, a bit worried. "I don't know... he disappeared..." Jax replied, and he pulls out his bat. "I hear something..." Jax whispered and he hands his bag to Pomni, and holds his bat defensively. Suddenly, a glitching figure walks slowly into view, it's hard to see what it is, but Jax recognizes it immediately. "Pomni... back away slowly... it's an infected... it's Gangle..." Jax whispers.

         Pomni does as told and backs away, and Jax grips his bat tightly. Gangle stops and looks in the direction of Jax and Pomni, and Jax's eyes widen. "Pomni... run..." Pomni looks at Jax. "What about you?" Pomni asks. "Don't worry about me... go!" Jax says sternly, and Gangle starts to run at him. Pomni runs as fast as she can, until she can't see either of them anymore.

        "Jax could be hurt! Or worse! I have to go back... but I need something to defend myself wi" Something catches Pomni's attention, and she picks it up and observes it. It's a thick metal pipe. "This could do just fine." Pomni says to herself and she starts to run back.

Pomni hides behind the circus tent's ratted sheet of colors and looks out from behind it. Pomni sees a different figure with a triangle head. "Well... assuming that the other one was Gangle... this is Zooble..." Pomni thinks to herself.

Pomni runs out and swings the pipe at Zooble, and Zooble falls apart. "That should slow you down for a while... now I need to find Jax..." Pomni runs to look for Jax for a bit longer, but she can't find him. "Oh no... where is he?" Pomni starts to panic. Pomni decides to go back to Ragatha for help. "We'll find you, Jax..." Pomni says out loud and runs off to the others.

Pomni gets there and is frantically talking to Ragatha. "Hey, Hey! Slow down, Pomni... what happened?" Ragatha asks, calmly. "Me and Jax were walking... and we saw Gangle... Jax told me to run... and I did... when I went back he was gone... I looked around for him but he wasn't anywhere!" Pomni explained.

"Okay... I'll get Kinger... I can't leave him alone so, yeah..." Ragatha goes and gets Kinger. "Hey, Kinger... we think Jax is in trouble... want to come with us to find him?" Ragatha asks. "Huh?! Oh.... Sure!" Kinger replies and he crawls out of his pillow fort, and walks over to them.

After a while of searching, they still can't find Jax. "Where did he go...?!" Pomni groans in irritation. "Maybe Gangle chased him off somewhere..." Ragatha says, looks around. Kinger is walking slowly behind them, picking up bugs as they go. "These will do nicely for my insect collection!" Kinger exclaims. "Hey, Kinger... could you possibly be a little quieter...?" Ragatha asks as politely as she can.

"Oh! Yeah." Kinger replies and pets a caterpillar. Ragatha looks out into the distance and sees an abstracted. "Guys! Hide!" They are run as fast as they can and hide in the circus tent. "Guys... be quiet..." Pomni whispers. After a few minutes, they walk out and see the abstracted is gone. "Okay... let's head back... we'll continue to look for Jax tomorrow... unless he hopefully comes back." Ragatha says.

Pomni sighs and nods in agreement.
