Vicki
Mari came over and filled me in on the tea with Jeffrey. Jacobi was finally home when she arrived; he's been killing it in the studio.
"Hey lil mama," Jacobi greeted Mari at the door giving her a hug. "I heard you was getting married."
"Yeah, right. That ain't gonna happen." Mari said as she sat down on the couch.
"Why is that?"
"My fiance is gay. And has informed me numerous times that he is not interested in being legally attached to me, even if it is just on paper." Jacobi's mouth hung open.
"You see how messy my family is? And you want me to make amends." I said pointing at Jacobi.
"Are you fucking serious?" He finally spoke, still bewildered.
"Father doesn't care as long as he has married us off to someone who will take care of us." Mari chimed in. Jacobi looked at me and I raised my eyebrows, twisted my lips up and shook my head as if to say, 'I told you'.
Jacobi shook his head and put his hands on his hips. "I'm sorry y'all. I'm sorry baby, I just thought you were just complaining about their parents like some people do, I had no idea."
"It's okay, because now you see what I was talking about." I voiced as I sat at the dining room table rolling a nice blunt, I figured Mari would need this more than I.
"Wait, so how are you not going to get married?" Jacobi asked.
"The groom will go missing."
"Damn, what the fuck? How?" He questioned instantly.
"He will be on vacation with his boyfriend for a few months." She replied. Jacobi looked at me and then back at Mari.
"Wow. Okay, I'm done with rich people's problems. Do y'all want some wine?" He walked into the kitchen.
"Yes please!" We both sang out.
"Girl, Father almost fucked up my plans with the art class."
"How?"
"By saying he'll make an art studio on the grounds of the compound and bring in a teacher."
"Sounds like him. What did you say?" I lit the blunt and inhaled the smoke. I closed my eyes and blew out the smoke. Jacobi returned with two glasses of wine.
"Well I told him that I would have to be off the compound for appointments regarding the wedding so it wouldn't be feasible for me to come all the way back home for the class."
"Good job on the distraction," I took hold of the wine glass as Jacobi passed it to me.
"I know right," Mari took her glass of wine from Jacobi. "So I have to wait for about a month for him to leave so it won't look like he just got up and left."
"As long as he does what he promised, you should be alright." I quipped.
"That is until your Father finds another for you to marry." Jacobi returned from the kitchen with a glass of wine, sitting at the dining room table alongside me. I passed him the blunt and he took a long pull, glowing the cherry.
"Yeah, but that won't happen until after Father first calls it off." Mari said.
He nodded his head in agreement and pulled on the blunt again. "So how long before you got until dude goes missing?"
"We have a month before he leaves town, unexpectedly." She smiled and took the blunt passed by Jacobi.
"When are you going into the office?" I asked because I knew she was heading there next.
