✦⋆✦ Leonhart, age 13 ✦⋆✦

It's crazy sad how a house filled with so many people loses so much after a loved one is gone. It had been a month since Naomi....well, I still can't say the D word. Gone is easier.

I sat in class tapping my pen. It was odd how my table went from being like home. It used to be loud and crazy. Now, it was almost too quiet. I slammed my pen down.

"Dammit!" I hissed, trying to hold my anger in. "Why is everyone so quiet!" I snapped.

"Leo." Gavin warned. His dad was still in a coma, and he still chose to my my friend after all this time. I have a bunk bed in my room as of two weeks ago.

"Mr De Luca, do we need to step-"

"Shut up!" I gritted my teeth. First I wanted noise, now I don't. I found out Mr Jones was a bodyguard undercover here anyway thanks to Gavin. I never let on about it. How much do they not trust me?

"Let's step out." Mr Jones walked over and once he placed his hands on me, I fought back but when Mr Jones moved swiftly and somehow pinned my hands at my side, leaning to my ear, I felt powerless once again. "Let's get one thing clear. You hit me, another teacher, or a student, we won't be walking out of this class without one of us crying." His serious voice would have been cool to see in a cartoon with like Batman. He let go and gestured to the door. I stormed out leaving my things. "Mr De Luca." He spoke following right behind me. "You know I can't let you leave the school." He reached out and grabbed my arm right as I got to the back door.

"What? Are you going to pull out some stupid weapon? Take me hostage? Kill me-" He grabbed my shirt and pulled me close to his face as he seethed.

"I know you're hurting. I know your entire family is. But don't take it out on the wrong people." His words seemed to have hit on point. I had been training for the day I took off to go back and turn myself over.

"May I?" Gavin sighed, walking up. Mr Jones gave a weird look and I was surprised he left without a word.

"How did you do that?" I asked as Gavin shoved me out the back door and he sat against the school wall, pulling out a cigarette. He never smokes it, just fiddles with it.

"Sit." He ordered, not looking up at me.

"Now listen here! I don't bend to-"

"You owe me." He hissed, looking up at me with that sense of hate. It had been a while since he gave me that kind of look. Out of all the people I thought would be in my life, Gavin wasn't one. Somehow, we ended up always going left or right, back or forward. If I ran from a room, he soon followed after. I found myself leaving a room when he did at home out of habit. I was scared I was growing too close and dependent on him.

✳✳✳Gavin's POV✳✳✳

I tapped my knee as Leo was finally sitting beside me. I sighed and looked at my watch. That night I threatened Leo in his room, his sister had spoken to me a few days after. Mrs De Luca made it clear I'd better not touch a hair on his head. If he was scared of my threat that night, he should have seen her scare tactics towards me. No, she didn't hurt me, but she sure made it clear that she could if I ever harmed her brother.

To think of what it would feel like to not be so alone. Leo had a house of people who loved him and would bend over backward and fly through hell and back to save him. Me? I found out my dad died two days ago. I know I swore to Leo I'd kill him and send his head to Mrs De Luca, but besides the threat she gave me, I found myself growing fond of Leo and his family. They treat me just the same as a family member. The only thing is, in the end, if Leo is hurt, I'm to blame. I'd be cast aside or maybe even killed. I can't trust the De Luca's all just yet. Dad was always gone. He made a point to talk to me over text while he was gone or a call, but that was only so much.
