Running her hands through the splintering handle, she pulled open her door before stepping into the dark room. The room was pitch black with no windows, the only potential light was a burnt out candle on her table. She walked to her bed, avoiding any obstructions through pure muscle memory as she had done this tons of times before carefully laying into her bed and staring into the ceiling.
Jessica Holden did not have a fun life, although hers was much better compared to her old comrades. Like most of her aquatic demi- human counterparts, she had been kidnapped from her village and forced to serve the hozeki family as a servant. Many of the servants would be forced to work insane hours with no breaks, although those who were put as miners would often die on the job.
This all leads back to how she had been able to escape the life of servitude. She was able to trade her “dignity” with a higher level officer of the family in exchange for being able to escape her duties. Sadly this also meant that she would be on the streets. Considering how nobody would hire an aquatic demi-human, lest they feel the wrath of the hozeki family, she was forced to “be her own boss.” Now that lead her to where she was now, staring up at the ceiling after her last “client” finished up and she was able to get enough money to be able to eat tomorrow AND pay rent. Considering the area, many rich business men with certain “interest” in the exotic type of woman would pay good money to be able to fulfill their desires.
While thinking about how she would split up the money for tomorrow, she did not happen to notice the growing shadow in the corner of her dark and damp room. A sudden darkness overtook the corner of her eyes as she suddenly sat up in her bed and stared at the shadow as it morphed into a ball before dissipating, revealing a man of average hight with a black suit with gold outlines. His most dominant feature was the massive wings that spread out from his back. Suddenly a match lit in his hand, before he through it at lightning fast spreads to the unlit candle which suddenly was lit, lighting up the room.
“Pretty dark in here isn't it?” the man started, “I would have hit the light switch if I could find one” Not letting her guard down around the man, she stared at him before replying “its not like they would give somebody like me a room with electricity, besides this is all I could afford.” The man hummed thoughtfully, before sighing.
“Welp, no reason for small talk so lets get right into it. I understand you do not like how your life is as of right now. I however, can get you out of the dark and damp prison cell of a dorm, and into a more suitable living space. So, what do you say?”
Jessica laughed for a second before eyeing the man in front of her, “that sounds WAY too good to be true… so what's the catch?” A smirk sounded its place on the man, “well from what I've heard, you used to be a servant for the hozeki family and recently got out,” the man said, getting a nod in response. “All i need for you to do is make a comprehensive map of the mansion with as much detail as you can, sprinkle a little bit of details on some of the abilities of the stronger people in the force, and you’ll be good. So, what do you say?” he finished before putting his hand out. Jessica gripped his hand before shaking it, “if that's all than you get yourself a deal, the names Jessica Holden by the
way.” “Don’t worry I know your name, but as for mine… my name is Adrian.”
—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A cloaked man wearing some of the darkest black stood on top of a clock tower which overlooked the city. His cloak waved in the air as he stood there with his arms crossed, waiting for his partner's arrival. Suddenly a ball of shadows appeared behind him before dissipating to reveal his right hand, Adrian, he proceeded to walk forward to get side by side with his partner. “I trust everything went well Adrian?” said Alex, still looking into the city wondering eyes. “Yep, turns out all the information was correct, and she proved quite useful with the map she provided, although with it came some troubling news.” Alex raised an eyebrow in response, “oh, and what news was that?”
