Y/N ran through the woods, stumbling over broken branches and prickled shrubs, fleeing from the monstrous animal that was chasing her.
This is it. I'm completely screwed. She thought about giving up and letting the monster get her, but something caught her eye, a piece of cloth glinting in the night, hanging on a tree. What the hell? Y/N thought, confused since she hadn't seen anything but trees for miles. Suddenly something darted around her, a figure that looked... human? She turned, whipping her head around to try and see what it was, when a hand grabbed Y/N's arm and pulled her behind a tree.
"What the f-" she said, before clocking whoever grabbed her straight in the eye.
"Good gods woman, I'm trying to help you here!" exclaimed the figure, holding his face. Y/N's eyes adjusted to the dark and she finally got a good look at the person. He looked to be about Y/N's age, 16 or 17 at the oldest. He had dark curly hair and tan skin, with deep brown eyes and kind of an elvish look to his face.
"Oh my god. I am so sorry." Y/N exclaimed, coming to her senses. "This monster animal thing has been chasing me for a while and i've just been so on edge and-"
"Woah it's fine, it's fine. This is not going to be my first black eye." the boy interrupted. "You're pretty strong, I just wasn't expecting it." he suddenly reached out and squeezed Y/N's bicep.
"What-" she pulled away and swatted at his hand. "Sleeper build.." he muttered to himself. Is this kid on drugs?
"Okay, wait you said you were trying to help me? How do you plan on doing that?" Y/N questioned him, waiting for a response. "Okay, this is going to sound kind of crazy, but we just need to cross that tree over there and we'll be safe." he pointed at the tree that she'd spotted earlier that had the piece of cloth draped over it.
"Okay... and why should I trust you?" Y/N said, crossing her arms. "Well, you punched me in the face and I didn't even try and hit you back so..." Y/N sighed. "Okay. Fair enough. How are we going to get over there without that.. thing spotting us?"
"I think I have an idea. When I say now, run as fast as you can towards that tree and don't stop until you're there okay?" the boy said. "What are you going to do?" Y/N asked. "You're just going to have to trust me on this one."
"Okay. I'm ready." Y/N exhaled.
"Okay... now!" Y/N started sprinting as fast as her tired legs would allow her to, not daring to look back at whatever was going on behind her. When she crossed the tree, an entire camp suddenly appeared seemingly out of thin air.
"Woah." Y/N looked around her before remembering about the boy. She turned to see where he was when she saw him running towards her. But his hand was..on fire? She was too groggy to process what was going on when he crossed the magical border and the monster gave up and ran away.
"Okay, please explain to me what's going on now." Y/N turned towards the boy. instead of answering her, he looked down at her leg, his face going a bit pale.
"What?" she looked down at her leg and saw her foot twisted almost entirely the wrong way. That's not good. "Oh." the boy's concerned face was the last thing she saw before blacking out on the soft dirt.
