As the summer came to an end, Alice and her sisters were aware Katherine was in the process of triggering Mason's curse. While Alice felt guilty allowing her uncle to be manipulated by her, she was aware his packmate Jules would be brought to town by him, making a perfect candidate as Klaus' sacrifice.
Four days before the first day of school, Alice was certain that her uncle had already triggered his curse. So she went to her father to contact him. Alice has spent enough time with him that she now called him 'Dad', something that caused Carol distress.
"Hey dad, I would really like to meet more of your family. Do you think you could get a hold of your brother so I can meet him?"
Richard and Mason had been estranged for quite a while, but since the news of a surprise daughter, they'd talked a couple of times on the phone.
"I can give him a call. He's been busy at the surf shop, but I'm sure this weekend would be a good time to fly down and meet him."
And so that Saturday Alice, Hayley, and Tyler flew to Florida with an important mission in mind. Knowing they'd come across "Kathy", Alice took the time to explain dopplegangers and vampires to Hayley and Tyler. With Hayley immune to compulsion, Alice took from her vervain stash and added it to Tyler's charmed silver bracelet.
"When did my life turn into a twilight book?" Tyler quirped.
"Well, here's the good news. Werewolves are actually the ones with venom, and it's lethal to vampires. Not the other way around." Alice explained.
When the taxi dropped them off at Mason's apartment, Mason was surprised to recognize Alice.
"Aren't you that little girl that beat my ass at Mario Kart?".
Alice smiled at the reminder, "Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you again,Uncle Mason."
Mason laughed before correcting her, "Please don't call me that. 'Uncle' makes me feel old."
Alice spent the next hour explaining that they were aware of the family's werewolf curse. That Hayley was Alice's adopted daughter that she found homeless at 13 after triggering her curse. She revealed that on her mother's side, Alice was also a witch. Then she explained something that was completely unexpected.
"Your girlfriend Kathy is not a human. Vampires exist and she is one. A thousand years ago a family lost their youngest child, and the mother was a powerful witch like myself who cast a spell to turn them immortal so that she would never lose another child. Most of her children were just humans, untapped witches. But she held a deep secret. One of her children was the product of an affair with a werewolf. His name is Niklaus Mikaelson. When she made her children immortal, she wasn't aware they would need to feed on human blood to sustain themselves. So after Niklaus was turned and killed his first human, he triggered his curse. His mother, Esther, saw that he was too powerful, so she used a moonstone and the blood of a special human called a doppleganger to bind his werewolf side. To this day, he is still cursed. Once he breaks his curse, he will be able to shift at will and sire others like him."
"Kathy was telling me about a moonstone. Is this the curse she was talking about?" Mason asked.
"Yes. Klaus needs it to break his curse, so his family spread a lie that it could break the werewolf curse or daylight curse depending on who used it." Alice confirmed.
"So if daylight really is toxic to vampires, how have I seen Kathy in broad daylight?" Mason questioned.
"One of my ancestors charmed a very special ring that renders her immune to sunlight. As long as she wears it, she's perfectly safe in the sun."
