Elimination

The day the principal announced Mr. Tanner's replacement, Stefan caught sight of Noah stalking Elena. As school let out, his ominous figure stood beside the basketball court. The way his veiny eyes followed Elena made it obvious he wasn't just a baller waiting for his friends. Luckily, Elena paused outside the school engaged in a conversation with Caroline and Bonnie as most of the students cleared out. Tyler noticed Stefan's glare and put two and two together. He walked up to Elena and Caroline to make Elena more inaccessible to the unwelcome admirer.

Tyler worked at stalling them until the rest of their peers exited the parking lot. When the last student left, he began walking them to Bonnie's car. As Noah began walking away, Stefan lunged out of the bench he was sitting on and sped to him.

"Hey!" he called out. Noah turned to look at him, with black veins running up to his bloodshot and dilated eyes. Before Noah had time to run, Stefan grabbed his arm, yanked him forward, and stabbed a pencil straight into his heart. As the life drained from his body, he lifted him into his arms and in two blinks of an eye he moved across the parking lot to his car and stuffed the body in his trunk.

Five minutes after the successful threat elimination, Alice and Hayley exited the school out to the staff parking lot.
"Well, I still think he was wrong," Hayley complained about the substitute History Teacher. Hearing the sound of her voice, Stefan zoomed to the back side of the school, startling the pair.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you. I think I took care of the stalker you mentioned. I hid his body in my trunk. Can you follow me to check and verify it's him?"

A short drive into the woods later, the two stood over the body as Hayley remained in Alice's passenger seat. With slight repulsion, Alice reached into the trunk and held Noah's hand. A vision of Noah standing in the middle of the road where Elena proceeded to crash into him, flipping her car upside down, confirmed that he was the one they were looking for.

"Yes, this is him. Thank you." She said with appreciation.

Afterward, she called her siblings to inform them of the good news and offered to host dinner at her home that night. Wanting something extra special, she drove to a Thai restaurant 20 minutes out of town for the celebratory dinner. For the vampires, she ordered 4 bowls of Nam Tok with extra cow's blood, a request that earned her an odd look from the host. For her family she ordered 5 plates of Pad Kee Mow. Thanks to her generous dividends from her numerous stocks, she barely batted an eye at the total for the meals. Having future knowledge had proven useful in several ways. If the stocks continued behaving the way they did in her previous world, she would be a millionaire by her 30th birthday.

To accommodate the growing number of guests, Alice had purchased a u-shaped coach which had been delivered two days after Stefan's birthday. After the 7 guests found their seats, Hayley and Alice passed out the takeout before taking their own seats, respectively forcing Damon and Tori to scoot over. Damon playfully rolled his eyes at the wordless command while Tori welcomed her best friend with a side hug.

Gia sat between Stefan and Tyler, taking slow bites of her spicy noodles as she waited for the atmosphere to calm down. Following several minutes of peaceful eating, she closed the lid on her remaining food and looked toward Alice.

"I think I saw Anna today. It's been a decade and a half since I last saw her face, so I can't be certain. But she was my height with brunette hair and looked part Chinese. I caught her staring at Jeremy while I was helping him study for his history quiz at the public library." Gia informed her eldest sister. As she spoke, everyone paused their eating and listened with interest.

"Do you still keep your bag of powdered vervain in your pocket? If it is her, you need to be prepared to defend yourself before immediately speed dialing Damon." Alice reminded her youngest sibling.

"Well now that she's showed herself, I think you should utilize Lee and I. Anytime one of the girls or your brother goes in public, they should text me and we can chaperone them from a distance." Lexi suggested.

"I think that's a great idea," spoke Tori.

"You know, I don't think we should just keep waiting anymore. If we access the tomb, I can take some of Pearl's DNA and perform a locating spell on Anna. We've made changes that make the future less predictable. The longer Anna is hidden from us, the more time she has to gather minions and turn them. We don't need more vampires in town that are not a part of our plans. The Council could be restarted, and we'd have little control over their actions and feelings towards witches or werewolves." Alice explained.

The group nodded in understanding.

The following night was perfect timing to access the tomb.  Stefan and Damon cleared the way to the tomb within 5 minutes. With a set of torches and a bottle of water, they were ready. After calling on the four elements and speaking the words from Emily's grimoire, the stone door slowly creaked open.

"Stay here. Don't follow me." Alice ordered the brothers. As  she walked further inside, the whispers of starving bloodsuckers bounced off the walls. Within a minute she entered the area containing over two dozen bodies and the light off her flashlight burned into the eyes of those long forgotten by the world. She closely inspected the faces of several females before finally coming across Pearl. "I'm sorry for what's going to happen. But eventually you'll find peace," she spoke before cutting and collecting a locket of her hair. With determination, she turned to leave, pangs of hunger and desperation rang through her as those she left behind mentally reached out to her. As she left the tomb, looks of relief crossed the Salvatore's faces.

"You got it?" Damon questioned.

"Yes," she confirmed as she held up the hair for them to see.

"Who are you?!" A new voice boomed. The three turned to look at the newcomer, Anna. Before any of them reacted, she zoomed to the open door. "You broke it?" She excitedly asked. The three were shocked that the girl they were looking for had presented herself.

"Yes, we were trying to release Katherine. But she wasn't inside." Alice lied.

"She never was. I saw her in Chicago a few decades ago. Look, I'm sorry you didn't get what you wanted, but thank you for opening the tomb. I have to get my mother now." Anna informed. Without thinking further, she entered the tomb and ran to her mother.

"Well, that was easy." Damon spoke. Alice nodded in agreement. With guilt in her heart, she spoke the words to close the door to the tomb.

"What now? Are we just going to leave them to rot?" Stefan asked with sympathy.

"I can't risk actually breaking the seal. I don't know if I'm powerful enough to do it by myself, and my family certainly wouldn't help me. So yes. Anna, her mother, and the rest will just have to accept this as their fate." Alice explained.

"Why don't you just light the thing on fire and put them out their misery?" Damon asked.

"I'm not sure if death will be any better. The Other Side won't bring them peace, so I don't see the point in killing them when it still exists. I don't know what they did before being trapped in there, I'm not going to decide their fate right now." Alice reasoned.

"Alright, well I could use a Bourbon. Can we go home now?" Damon questioned.

"Yeah, the threats are gone for the time being. We can leave, but I need you to rebury the entrance." Alice requested.

An hour later Alice rested on her bed and contemplated her introduction to Alaric. Tomorrow was his first day of work and she was going to need him on her side. He needed to like her. But would he?
