Maya was looking out of her bedroom window; it was already ten in the evening.

She was a volunteer firefighter at the moment, due to take part in the Olympic Games in just over a fortnight's time, and this allowed her to do her dream job, as well as managing her schedule by giving the station where she worked her availability. This way, she could earn money, train for the job she wanted to do later, and get back to the academy after the Olympics.

It was April. She'd been surprised to see a shadow in the room in the house across the backyard.
She had frowned and seen it pass in front of the window. She hadn't had this vision since July of the previous year.

/Flashback/

Carina had moved in with her family two months ago, and one evening, with the start of the new school year just a few days away, she had seen the light in front of her bedroom go on. It was the first time since she'd moved in.

She was sitting on the porch roof, just outside her bedroom window, reading.
She had seen a young blonde girl appear at the opposite window.
She looked up from her book.

The blonde had looked at her through the window. She was watching her as if Carina couldn't see her back.

/End of flashback/

She had tilted her head to one side and squinted.

The girl opposite had turned her head towards her, too; her hand had risen slightly, as if to wave, then receded into the gloom. Almost at the same moment, Maya had felt two arms come to embrace her body.

-"Are you coming to bed gorgeous?

- "yes"

-"Why is there a ladder against your neighbor's roof? I've always wondered... Do they think they're in Dawson's Creek?"

- "remember hearing my friends talk about a «Carina»?"

- "your ex?"

- "yes"

- "this is her place"

- "oh so... That ladder... Is it here for you?"

- "it was. Her father had it fixed so I wouldn't fall... They just didn't bother to remove it I guess."

- "I hope you're not thinking of taking it back"

- "you're my girlfriend now"

- "I know you were madly in love with her"

- "«was» you said it all."

/Flashback/

The next evening, Maya had her bedroom window open and Carina was back on the roof.

- "ciao"

- "hi"

-"my name is Carina"

- "Hi, I'm Maya"

- "are you new?"

- "no, I've lived here forever"

- "how come this is the first time I've seen you?... Well, the second with yesterday".

- "I was at summer camp"

- "like in movies ? Like «Camp Rock» ?"

- "like in movies, but more sports than music"

- "oh I see, and what kind of sports do you do?"

- "running"

- "ah yeah?!" she asked in surprise.

-"Yes, why? You look surprised".

- "I only see the upper part of your body, I didn't think you were super-muscular"
