(Maya's POV)
Rachel ran up the sidewalk beside me, which was always normal. We started school days that way, because I'd always be up late and she would already coming to my place.
"Good morning.." Rachel said, breathing hard.
"Did you run all the way here again?" I asked, exchanging good mornings.
"Yeah,.. I was.. lying in bed a.. couple minutes after.. my alarm rang." Rachel said between breaths.
"At least you're here on time?"
"Yeah.."
We walked in silence the majority of the way there. It was like that sometimes, where we wouldn't have anything to talk about, so we didn't.
"I'm so exhausted..." Rachel finally said, "I hope we don't have to deal with any Distains today.."
"Definitely, especially all the schoolwork we have."
"Speaking of schoolwork, there's a test today."
"What?!?"
I didn't study!! I didn't even know!
"Oh, Maya.. pay attention." Rachel laughed.
I can't believe I didn't pay attention! I told myself I would watch out for any announcements!
"I try to!" I shout.

(Rachel's POV)
Math.
That's the first class.
Math.
It's not my favorite, but I've been told I'm good at it.
At least I don't necessarily hate it.
I thoughts whirled off while the teacher was talking.
79 + 86x = 93 + 25x.
But I could easily change that to 76 + 86x -25x =93.
So that's 76 + 61x =93.
..
17 divided by 61...
0.27868852.
Fraction.
6.967213 over 25.
Can't you just estimate that to 7?
"Everyone!" The teacher shouted, "We have a new student joining us today!"
"Ooooo!" Maya said excitedly.
I put on a smile because "First impressions matter!" That's not true.
I rolled my eyes at the thought.
"Everyone, please be nice!" The teacher said.
"Yes ma'am!" Most of the students, including Maya and I, say.
"Hi, I'm Mackenzie Mack, as most of you know.." Mackenzie smiled to the class.
Well, definitely better than what I hoped for.
"Mackenzie Mack?!" Some students whispered to each other.
"I can't believe it!" Said others.
There were also things like:
"I'm gunna be her best friend!"
"I bet she'll ask me to show her around school!"
"She should sit by me!"
