Butch had taken the reins on the horses and I on the ground next to Annabeth who was managing a bronze navigation tool.
I was honestly surprised that they willingly came into the chariot, but I was grateful. It made things easier. Maybe when we get back to camp, I can manage a few hours of quality time. Yeah, that sounds good.
We rose over the Grand Canyon and started heading east. The icy winds were slapping me in the face, but I didn't mind it.
"This is so cool!" Leo spit a pegasus feather out of his mouth and I rolled my eyes at the boy, even though inwards I knew he was just an overly excited ADHD and probably dyslexic teenager who had just discovered that he was a half blood. I once again thanked whoever spared me from dyslexia. ADHD was not that bad.
"Where are we going?", Piper piped.
(Haha, get that? Nope... okay.)
"A safe place," Annabeth answered. "The only safe place for kids like us. Camp Half-Blood."
"Half-blood?" Piper spat, her voice defensive. "What is that? Some kind of sick joke?"
I frowned at her. Why is this girl so defensive?
"She means we are demigods," Jason told the girl. "Half god, half mortal."
I raised an eyebrow at him. "Yes," I agreed.
"What?" he asked, when I didn't take my eyes off him.
"It's just strange," I said. "Most newcomers don't know much when it comes to what they are. Regardless, you are right. I'm Jade, the daughter of...... Night. Well, we just call her Night, her name is too powerful to be uttered. Annabeth is a daughter of Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, and Butch is a son of Iris, Goddess of rainbows."
I could see them visibly frowning when I said 'Night', but it was probably for the best. After all, her name was too dangerous.
Leo choked. "Your mom is the rainbow goddess?"
"Got a problem with that?" Butch asked.
Leo shook his head, a smile playing on his elfish face. "No, no. Rainbows. Very macho."
Huh. Smart guy. He knows what's good for him, most people don't learn not to question Butch's heritage so soon. He probably won't get tossed off, I guess.
"Butch is our best equestrian," Annabeth added. "He gets along great with the pegasi."
Best. More like second best to horse dude.
"Rainbows, ponies," Leo muttered.
"I am going to toss you off this chariot," Butch threatened.
And I spoke too soon. They never learn, do they? Well, no harm in putting fuel to the fire, no?
"I'll help you with that,Butch." I asked and Leo looked at me horrified but I just looked at him with a blank expression on my face. He blinked. Once. Twice. Thrice. And then the most unexpected thing happened.
He winked back at me.
This guy actually had the gall to flirt with me? I mean, not that I hated it, it was actually quite refreshing, but just not a common occurrence. Most people were too scared to approach me, even in the mortal world.
"Demigods," Piper said, softly. "You mean you think that we are-"
She was interrupted by a flash of lightning. The chariot shuddered and Jason yelled, "The left wheel is on fire."
My mind went into natural battle instincts mode as I jumped up.
"Why Gods and Goddesses up in Olympus enjoying our misery, why?"
Dark shapes were dancing in the clouds. More storm spirits spiraled towards the chariot, except these looked more like horses than angels.
"Why are they-" Piper started to say.
"Anemoi come in many different forms," Annabeth explained. "Sometimes humans, sometimes stallions, depending on how chaotic they are. Hold on, this could get rough."
I yanked my necklace, which immediately transformed into a shimmering and slightly glowing bow and a quiver filled to the brim with various kinds of arrows, all silver.
"Holy shit," Leo jumped away from me as I shot my first arrow. It went straight through the storm spirit and I cursed under my breath.
"Jade!" Annabeth screeched but I just loaded an arrow, taking a deep breath as it aimed at a storm spirit. A dark shadow materialized to the tip of the arrow and I released the it flying straight towards The shadows encased it as the arrow penetrated it.
"How did you-" Piper was about to ask when the chariot shuttered. There was an anemoi thuellai beneath us. With that there, there was a bigger chance of someone flying off the chariot, which was my biggest concern at this moment.
"Shit". I tugged at my bowstring once and it transformed back into the necklace around my neck.
On tapping one of my rings, the ring practically melted and formed a black folding fan, crafted out of Stygian Iron and had wicked dagger like tips at the end to impale the enemy, also of Stygian iron with tinges of silver on them and on the fan.
I grappled the bar near the end of the chariot, turned my face down towards the storm spirit and hurled my fan.
Bullseye.
After disintegrating into gold dust, the fan reappeared back in my hand like a boomerang.
But then the wheels came off and the back of the chariot was on fire. The chariot dropped, and the pegasi were struggling with the sudden burst of speed and the weight of six people.
"AIM FOR THE LAKEEEE" was all I managed to say before dissapearing into the shadows.
