Chapter 3
Scars
Alex shot out of bed as pain rips through her shoulder. Alex lifted her hand to her mouth and bites down on it to stop her from screaming in pain. Violet, who was mended by the healers after Imogen pulled out her shoulder, slept in the bed next to Alex. Alex got off the bed, grabbing her cloak. She slipped into the bathroom and pulled off her shirt as the mage light came on. Alex looked in the mirror. She turned and looked at her back.
A scar ran from the top of her shoulder all the way down to her lower back. It was white, but it was flamed a bit around the skin. She got it four years ago, but because her father wouldn't let her heal it good, it caused her pain. Tonight was one of those nights. Alex hated the scar, but it was just a reminder of her father's cruelty. Alex pulled on her shirt, flinching at the pain.
Alex stepped out into the hall. Alex headed for the healer quadrant, hoping a healer was awake for some ointment to help with the pain. She didn't want it to happen when she was sparring or if she gets a dragon, during flight. Alex knows she was pushing it with curfew.
"Lex?" Alex breathe hitched and she flinched as more pain ran through the scar. Alex turned to see Bodhi heading her way.
"Bodhi. What are you doing out here?" Alex asked. Bodhi stopped in front of her.
"I'm doing rounds making sure no one is out of bed. Shouldn't you be in bed?" Bodhi asked.
"I just need a trip to the healers quadrant. I have a scar that's causing me pain. I can't sleep. Was hoping they had something. It can't wait till tomorrow." Alex whispered.
"The scar on your shoulder?" Bodhi asked. Alex looked at him in surprise. "I saw it after our sparring. Looks like its a big one. Come on. I'll take you there." Alex was relieved that he didn't ask her how she got it. She didn't want to tell him.
"Thank you." Alex said. They head down towards the Healer Quadrant.
"What made you want to join the Rider Quadrant?"
"Just always wanted to ride a dragon. Not that my father forced me. If he had his way, I be in the Healer Quadrant. He threatened it a few times." Alex grumbled. Bodhi gave her a worried look. "Which Dragon do you have?"
"I have a green swordtail. Her name is Cuir." Bodhi said as they arrived at the Healer Quadrant. Bodhi knocked on the door. A woman answered.
"Yes?" Her eyes widen when she saw Alex. "Alexandra."
"Hey. Laura. I need your help." Alex said.
Laura led them over to a bed.
"How you guys know each other?" Bodhi asked.
"We're cousins. My mother and her sister are healers." Alex explained.
"Plus I know why she's here. My mother delt with that scar." Laura said, glaring at Alex. Bodhi now wanted to know what happened to Alex. "Does he know?"
"He knows I have it, but not how. You really think I want to risk my father's wrath." Alex glared at her cousin. They were close as kids, but they both wanted other paths.
"I know. I don't want to loose you. Mother already hates your father for what he did to your mother." Laura said, leading them to the bed. "I'll got get the ointment. I also have stuff that will last you a month or as long as you need it." Laura disappeared. Alex sat down on the bed.
"How did you get that scar? Your father gave it to you. I didn't realize he was that mean to his own flesh and blood." Bodhi said. Alex snorted.
"He executed all your families without hesitation. He is capable of abuse. I don't want to talk about it." Alex said. Alex hissed as she turned her back to him to lift the back up.
