Chapter 6
Time for Presentation

"Doria Merrill." Fitzgibbons said from the dais. Alex was bouncing with excitement. It was finally Presentation Day and they had to get past the Gauntlet to get to the flight field. Alex didn't hear the rest of the names that were read. Violet was still neverous of not getting to the top. "We commend their souls to Malek." Fitzgibbons steps off the dais and the formation breaks.

"Second and third years, unless you're on Gauntlet Duty, head to class. First-years, it's time to show us what you've got." Dain said, forcing a smiles and skips over to Violet as he looks at the squad.

"Good luck today." Imogen says, tucking a strand of pink hair behind her ear. She smiles at Violet. "Hopefully you won't fall short."

"See you later." Violet said, lifting her chin. Bodhi comes over quickly. Alex turned to him and he pulled her in a hug.

"Good luck, Lex. I'll be at top with Xaden and Garrick." Bodhi said, pressing a kiss to Alex's lips.

"I'll see you up there." Alex promised.

"Durran. Get to your squad." Dain growled. Bodhi rolled his eyes as he stole a kiss from Alex and quickly disappears. Alex watched him go with a smile on her face. Dain was glaring at Alex. She rolled her eyes. "Back into formation." The nine of them fall into two lines of four with Alex as the last and lone person. Alex didn't mind as Violet and Rhiannon talked.

"We're the biggest squad." Ridoc notes from in front of Alex, looking around. It didn't surprise Alex.

"What are we down to? Hundred and eighty?" Tynan asked.

"Hundred and seventy-one." Second Wing starts to move after First Wing moves out.

"For a hundred dragons? But what will we..." Trina asked.

"Stop letting fear leach into your voice." Luca snaps Alex sighed. "If the dragons think you're a coward, you'll be nothing but a name tomorrow."

"She says including more fear." Ridoc narrates.

"Shut up. You know it's true." Luca said.

"Keep it up and you might be a name tomorrow as well." Alex said. Luca shoots her a glare.

"Just portray confidence, and I'm sure you'll be fine." Violet said as Third Wing Marches for the gate.

"Thanks." Trina said. Dain's eyes finally looks at Violet. Alex stood tall. She was ready.

"Nevous, Melgren?" Ridoc asked.

"Nope. I'm ready for this." Alex said.

"Fourth Wing!" Xaden calls out from somewhere in the distace. "Move out!" Fourth Wing starts to move. Flame Section, then Claw, and then Tail. Alex walked with her squad. Her fingers playing with the handles of her daggers from the anticipation of the Gauntlet.

'One step closer, Grandpa. I hope I'll make you proud.' Alex thought with a smile. Her grandfathers daggers were still in her boots. They head for the Gauntlet.

An hour later. Alex reached the ramp for the last part of the Gauntlet. Everyone but her so far has reached the top. Violet had made it.

"Almost done, Alex!" Rhiannon yelled as Alex sprintened for the ramp without stopping. She ran up it and leaped. She grabbed the edge with ease and pulled herself up with ease with a huge smile on her face as her Squadmates jump her, pulling her into hugs. They all made it. Alex didn't miss the glare Amber was giving Violet.

"She tried to disqualify me for how I got up." Violet said as they pulled away. Alex raised an eyebrow. "Riorson overrid her." Alex hugged Violet.

"Lex." Alex turned with a smile and Bodhi pulled her into a hug. "You were amazing." Bodhi kissed her hard. Alex wrapped her arms around his neck and returned it.
