"Thinkin' 'bout the love we make and all life sharin'
Come and feel me, oh, feel me
Shinin' in the settin' sun like a pearl up on the ocean
Come and feel me, come on, heal me"

I'd been waiting for my parents to call since we got back from Aadhisha's place, but I got nothing and my patience was wearing thin.

For once, I thought they might actually be concerned about me. I'd always wondered why some people made such a fuss about their parents not giving them enough attention.

They'd dive into drugs, get caught up in illegal shit—not just to get attention, but to get their parents' love and care. It was like they needed that validation, that sense of being seen.

I wasn't exactly proud of this whole ordeal, but deep down, I was still waiting for that simple 'thank God you're okay, beta.'

My phone rang and it was from Vedika Di and Yashwardhan Bhai from their office. The whole screen was filled with their faces, but there was no sign of my parents.

I told myself they were probably in the cafeteria, planning to join later—trying to convince myself it was nothing.

"How are you, Evyaan? Did you see the physician? Any injuries? Should I call your homeroom teacher?" Vedika Di asked, her voice full of genuine concern. I saw the plaster on her arm, and my worry shot up.

"Di, I'm fine. But what happened to you?" I asked, my voice tight with unease as I looked closer at her injury.

"She tripped on the stairs," Yashwardhan Bhai, Vedika Di's business partner, said calmly—but I could hear the edge of concern in it.

Vedika Di hesitated, her eyes dropping, and that only made my worry grow.

Just as I was about to ask if her fall was related to her worry about me, her assistant stepped in.

"I called her on the stairs, and she swirled, causing her to fall. My apologies, Mr. Jadeja. I should've been more careful."

"Apologies are not enough. Does your job only involve putting your boss at risk? This is absolutely unacceptable. And Di, how could you be so reckless? What if something had happened to you?" I said, my voice quivering with a potent blend of anger and agitation as I failed to control it.

Not even once has this new assistant of Di's protected her from anything.

A good for nothing, truly.

"I'm fine, dumbo. And thank God you're okay too. Just rest up and make sure you're eating on time," she reassured me. It wasn't enough, but I dropped it and didn't push further.

The conversation shifted as I laid out everything from yesterday—how Di tracked us down, how Yashwardhan Bhai arranged the helicopter, and how Evaana was sick with worry, even though she'd never show it. But still, no word from my parents.
