"Myra, Myra, wake up."
Eve's frantic voice cut through the fog in my mind. Her head pressed into my stomach, trembling, as she shook me with desperate urgency.
My eyes fluttered open, my breath hitching when I realized we were both tied up.
"Eve," I breathed, my voice shaky as my gaze darted around the dimly lit room. Cold metal shelves lined the walls, packed with grimy containers of paint.
The sharp, chemical sting of oil paint clung to the air, making my stomach turn.
I forced myself to swallow the rising nausea. The room had no windows, and the ventilation was running too high, creating an eerie hum that rattled through my skull.
"Myra, are you okay?" Eve's voice cracked as she struggled to sit up, the ropes cutting into her wrists.
"I am," I whispered, though my throat burned with the lie.
My body ached, and now that I was awake, I could feel the slight tremor in Eve's limbs as her head rested against me.
"Don't hurt yourself, Eve," I said softly, flinching when she jerked and hit the floor with a soft thud.
"Turn around a little more. I'll try to open it," I said, mimicking her movements and shifting toward her.
Her hands trembled as they brushed against my face, and I tried to grab the thick ropes with my teeth. My jaw ached as I strained, the rough fibers burning against my lips.
"Are you able to untie it?" Eve's voice was barely above a whisper.
"Give me some time," I said, my voice tighter now. I bit down again, but the rope slipped through my lips.
A frustrated whimper escaped me.
"It's really hard and thick," I breathed, tears stinging the corners of my eyes as helplessness started creeping in.
"That's what she said," Eve muttered. A shaky laugh slipped from my mouth despite the situation.
I sucked in a breath, steadying myself.
Focus.
"Shift onto your right side a bit more," I said, my voice firmer now. Eve moved closer, her breath hitching as the ropes dug deeper into her skin.
My mouth brushed against the rough fibers, and I bit down again, this time harder, ignoring the raw sting on my lips.
I had to get us out of here.
I finally got the knot and pulled it with all the energy in my body loosening it and it once it was lose enough Eve tried getting her hands out as i shouted.
"Wait, that will tighten it more"
"It won't, sunshine. I'll just take one hand out," she said smartly, slipping one hand free and quickly untying the other before turning to help me.
