Danny

Once we got to the restaurant and ordered our drinks, I had to wait for the right moment. "Thanks for taking me to dinner tonight, Danny."

"Of course. I would do anything for you, Valentina and I sincerely mean that."

She smiled and grabbed her glass of red wine. "So, what did you want to talk about?"

I shook my head. "You will need to wait. It's a surprise."

"What can I get you?"

After we ordered our food, I felt my heart beating out of my chest. I wish I could do it now, but I need to wait just a bit longer once we get there. "So, what's the plan after dinner?"

"I am taking you to Rocky's Cape."

She raised her eyebrows. "The what?"

"It's a huge tourist spot that overlooks the Cherry Creek Reservoir."

"Oh, I've never been there."

"It's a beautiful location."

"Well, I look forward to it."

"So do I."

Once we finished eating and got in the car, I felt myself getting more and more nervous. I was never the nervous type, but tonight was different. The only thing I could hope for is that she will say yes.

By the time we got there, the sun had just begun to set, reflecting off of Valentina's figure. "You look beautiful in this lighting."

She looked at me and smiled. "Thanks."

As she grabbed her phone to take a photo, I reached in my pocket and grabbed the box. Here we go.

Once she turned around, I took a deep breath. "I know I've messed up, Valentina. I hurt you too many times and I hate myself for it. Every therapy session seems to help me and it's making me realize how bad of a husband and father I was."

"That's in the past now, Danny."

"After I got into a relationship with Tina and married her soon after, everything went to shit. I thought I was happy, but she wasn't you. I felt myself missing our children more and more and the thoughts of you in my head were so much that it became overwhelming and when I found out that you moved on, it broke me inside."

"Danny..."

"Being able to see my children again is beyond the best feeling in the world. I left you guys, and I shouldn't have."

Valentina shook her head. "No, you shouldn't have."

"But things can be fixed. At least to me they can."

"That's all I can hope for, Danny."

"I want to fix our family, Valentina. I miss us."

"You didn't when you cheated on me."

"That's a mistake that I can never take back, but I've changed. I seriously don't see myself with anyone else except you."

Valentina's face softened. "I've slowly felt that way too."

"That being said, I have something that I want to ask you."

"And what would that be?"

Smirking, I slowly got down on one knee.
