The man nodded, his eyes filling with tears again. "Yes" he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm Edward James. I don't know how I ended like that or what had happened to me. I just remember waking up in my house and I couldn't get out. I really thought I was going to die there." "You're safe now," Detective D said again, his voice gentle. "Let's get you to the hospital, and then we'll talk about what happened."
James nodded, his whole body trembling. "Thank you," he said, his voice raw with emotion. They arrived at mystic shadow hospital, Dr Marcelo was passing by the reception and he saw Detective D and Edward "oh my goodness you found him " Doctor Marcelo exclaimed "We did," Detective D said, a relieved smile spreading across his face. "And he's safe now, thanks to your help. I can't thank you enough."
"It's no trouble at all," Dr. Marcelo said, his eyes full of concern as he looked at Edward. "You must be so frightened, Mr. James. Let's get you checked out and make sure you're okay." Edward nodded, following Dr. Marcelo into the hospital.
Detective D watched them go, a sense of relief washing over him. He had a feeling that they were finally getting close to solving this mystery. "Detective D, Samantha mother's just called for you " Samuel said, "what could she wants " Detective D asked feeling surprised his Bethored wife mother call for him, giving how she reacted when he and Samantha decided to break off the engagement since they do not love one another, "I'm not sure," Samuel said, his brow furrowed. "But she sounded pretty upset. I think you should call her back as soon as you can."
"You're right," Detective D said, a sense of dread settling in his stomach. "I'll call her right now."He dialed the house number on the office telephone, his heart pounding as he waited for her to pick up. "Hello?" a shaky voice said after a few rings. "Mrs. McCarthy?" Detective D said, his voice calm and reassuring. "It's Damon. Is everything okay?"
"No!!!" Her voice thickens "has you would know my beloved daughter, ur ex fiancee is dead cause your investigating her case" Mrs McCarthy speak softly yet sounds frustrated ,Detective D felt a wave of sympathy for Mrs. McCarthy, her grief and anger palpable in her voice. "I know this is a very difficult time for you," he said, choosing his words carefully. "But I need to ask you a few questions about Samantha and the events leading up to her death. I know it's not easy, but it's important that we get to the bottom of this."
There was a long silence on the other end of the line, and Detective D could almost hear Mrs. McCarthy's thoughts whirring. Finally, she spoke again. "I will be home at 6 o'clock Damon, you can come over" Mrs.McCarthy said sharply and dropped the call.
Detective D looked at his watch, noting that it was already 4:30. He had less than two hours make it to Mrs. McCarthy's house. "Samuel," he said, turning to his assistant. "I need to go to Mrs. McCarthy's house. Are you coming with me?" "Of course," Samuel said, his face serious. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
Detective D nodded, grateful for his assistant's dedication. He knew this case was important and he was glad to have someone like Samuel by his side. "Let's go," he said and they mounted on their horses and hurried to Mrs McCarthy house ,for it an hour and few minutes journey and they had to ride as fast as they can for Detective D had to make it home before 10pm a rule Fernanda had set up for Detective D.
They rode their horses as fast as they could, the wind whipping through their hair and the sound of hooves thudding on the ground beneath them. Detective D's heart was pounding in his chest, and he could feel the adrenaline coursing through his veins. They arrived at Mrs. McCarthy's house, and Detective D dismounted his horse, his legs shaking with the effort. "Welcome," Mrs. McCarthy said, her voice quavering. "Come inside."
Detective D and Samuel followed her into the house, their minds racing with questions, the last time Detective D was here, was to break his engagement to Samantha as he has found his true love 'Fernanda' Samantha had given the go ahead for they were not in love, there parents had bethrored them since they were five ,that day had been one of the most difficult days of Detective D's life.
He had loved Samantha as a friend, but he could never imagine being with her for the rest of his life. Fernanda was the one he truly loved, and he knew that he couldn't go through with the engagement any longer. Samantha had been hurt, but she had understood his reasons and had given him her blessing.
"I remember that day," Mrs. McCarthy said, her eyes welling up with tears. "I could see the pain in your eyes and I knew you were doing the right thing. You were always such a good friend to Samantha ,but I still believe if you had gotten married, you would have grew to love her in the end" Mrs McCarthy spoked, looking at Samantha picture on the wall, Samantha was dress in a Royal blue flowing gown, she had piercing blue eyes and black long hair, she was a beauty to behold, she looked like she was Detective D's twin sister
Detective D looked at the picture, his heart aching at the memory of his friend. She had been so full of life, so vibrant and passionate. He could still remember the way she would laugh, her eyes shining always had an effect on him, but he also knew that he could never have loved her the way she deserved to be loved.
"I know you believed that, Mrs. McCarthy," he said, his voice soft. "But I could never have given Samantha the love she deserved. My heart belonged to someone else."
Mrs. McCarthy nodded, a sad smile on her face. "I know," she said. "how are your parents I heard you had a fight with them and they refused to show up at your wedding "Yes, my parents were not happy about my decision to break off my engagement to Samantha," Detective D said, his voice tight. "They felt that I was being disloyal, that I was breaking a promise I had made. But I couldn't go through with it, not when I knew that my heart belonged to someone else. They refused to come to my wedding to Fernanda, and we haven't spoken since."
"I'm so sorry to hear that," Mrs. McCarthy said, a note of sympathy in her voice. "I know it must have been difficult for you, but I think you made the right choice", "thank you Mrs McCarthy , m sorry but I owe it to Samantha to find her killer" Detective D spoke with no emotions as he decided to get serious with the case"
"I know ,we all do," Mrs. McCarthy said, her eyes brimming with tears. "Samantha was my only child and I just want to know what happened to her. I need to know why she was taken from me, why she was taken from this world. I need to find some sort of closure."
"I understand," Detective D said, his voice soft. "And I promise you, we will do everything in our power to find out what happened to her. We won't stop until we have answers. "Mrs. McCarthy nodded, a flicker of hope in her eyes. "Thank you," " when last did you see Miss Samantha" Detective D asked.
"It was about two weeks before she disappeared," Mrs. McCarthy said, her voice cracking. "She came over for dinner, and we talked for hours. She seemed happy and I thought everything was going well for her. She had been seeing a therapist and I thought she was making progress. I never imagined that something like this could happen to her."
