On My Way To You

The sounds of grunting and the squelching of blood filled my mind, leaving me uncertain if it was my own.

I didn't care at this moment I was exposed for everybody to see, I'm just thankful I'm alive to be embarrassed about it.

My vision partially returned, revealing the masked man whom I had slowly grown attached to rushing to my side.

He clutched my body as if I were the most delicate thing in the world, and in this moment, I almost was. I witnessed the sadness in his eyes as mine fluttered open every now and then. Guilt ate away at him, he was convinced he had fallen short in protecting the one person who truly saw him for who he was: Simon Riley.

With careful hands, he gingerly pulled the pants onto me, taking great care not to cause me any further discomfort.

The tears I shed before now flowed even more profusely, an overwhelming of pain, fear and gratitude coursed through my veins. I knew I was safe, Ghost's presence brought me a sense of ease in this dire situation.

"Ghost." I whispered, bringing my eyes up to meet his. I was overwhelmed with the amount of emotions within me. At this moment, I'd never longed for anyone more than him. His face brought me so much relief it was overwhelming me in the best way possible.

"Simon, it's Simon." He said, carefully hoisting my body into his arms, sending waves of pain throughout.

"It hurts." I cried, bringing my head to rest on his chest.

He looked down at me like he was holding a newborn baby. Scared to move, scared to drop me. His eyes held a depth of emotion I had never seen before. "I know Hattie, I need you to stay with me." I nodded, trying to overcome the sleep I so desperately wanted.

He carried me out of the room, casting a glance at the dismantled being behind me torn to shreds. He deserved it.

Amidst the scattered bodies, I remembered the doctor who saved me.

"Where's Soap?"

"He's with Alejandro and the rest of his vaqueros."

"I need you to find the doctor who helped me." I explained to him what she looked like, dark brown hair, blue eyes, and a little taller than me.

"I'm not leaving you again, Hattie. I can't do it." His eyes reflected a profound sadness, hinting at the reluctance to leave me alone once more.

I had never witnessed him in such a vulnerable state. He is typically stoic and composed, but now revealed emotions he has never displayed.

"Please, she risked her life to save me and bring you guys here. I can't leave her with Graves." Ghost looked reluctant, but carefully placed me down. He left within the second I was on the ground, not wasting a moment in doing what I asked him.

I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed knowing I was safe and out of harm's way. Alejandro, Soap and Ghost were with me now, taking me out of this hellhole.

I eventually heard voices around the corner and quick footsteps approaching my location.

"Can you handle a gun?" Ghost said coming around the corner. And then I saw her face. It was another wave of relief seeing her next to Ghost's side.
