Mark and Misty arrived in front of Viridian Forest which would take them to Pewter City for his first gym badge.

"Hold on a second." He opened up his mini laptop. "It says that this place is home to bug type Pokemon.

"Bug type Pokemon." Misty had a frightened expression on her face.

"It is a forest, so bug type Pokemon are bound to be there." Mark pointed out. "If we walk quickly, we can get through the forest in no time."

Misty hesitantly followed him into the forest.

They made good progress through the forest.

"Ah." Misty let out a loud scream.

"What's the problem?" She pointed to a green worm.

"Come on out, Bulbasaur." Mark released Bulbasaur from it's Poke Ball.

"Tackle." Bulbasaur tackled Caterpie.

Caterpie was easily knocked out.

"Let's see what moves you know before I decide to capture you." Mark looked Caterpie up on his mini laptop.

"Hmm. You only know Tackle and String Shot." He opted not to capture Caterpie.

"I'll be facing the Pewter City gym soon. That gym's specialty is rock type Pokemon, so my best bet is to avoid using bug, fire, flying, ice and normal types."

Mark and Misty then stopped walking to take a break.

"I really want to get out of here." Misty said.

"We will at some point, relax." Mark tried to put her at ease. "I'm going to prepare my Bulbasaur for the Pewter City gym battle."

Two hours had passed and Bulbasaur eventually learned Razor Leaf.

"That's enough training for now. Let's see how Misty is doing." Mark declared.

He came over to where Misty was waiting.

"Did it go well?" She asked.

"Yeah." Mark nodded. "Bulbasaur now knows Razor Leaf."

The two then ate some sandwiches he purchased back in Viridian City.

Mark then fell asleep and Misty followed suit.

The next morning

Mark shot up out of his sleeping bag when Misty let out a scream.

"Again." He grumbled.

"There's another nasty bug."

"Bulbasaur, use Tackle." Bulbasaur knocked Weedle out.

"Can we get out of this forest?!" Misty shouted, acting like a baby.

"Sure." Mark agreed to leave now.

Before he took a step, he stayed in place.

"Do you hear that?" He asked out loud.

"That better not be a bug." Misty said. "I've had enough of them for one day."

A sword was then embedded into a tree near them.

"What's your name?" Mark asked.

"I'm Samurai. I patrol this forest for any trainers that come from Pallet Town." A boy in a suit of armor said. "Would you happen to be a trainer from Pallet Town."

"That's right." Mark nodded once again.

"We're going to have a Pokemon battle." Samurai proclaimed.

"You're on." He accepted the battle.

Mark and Samurai got ready for their battle.

"I'll start the battle." Samurai said. "Let's go, Pinsir."

"Pinsir. It's a bug type Pokemon, so it would resist Razor Leaf." Mark said to himself. "In that case. Bulbasaur, Tackle."

"Counter with your own Tackle." Samurai ordered.

"Dodge that." Mark said.

Bulbasaur avoided Pinsir's attack.

"Retaliate with Body Slam." After using Body Slam, Pinsir was defeated.

Samurai then returned Pinsir to it's Poke Ball.

"That was a great battle." He said.

"You know it." Mark replied. "I have a question, though."

"Go ahead." Samurai was willing to hear his question.

"Would you know where the exit is? My friend is determined to leave Viridian Forest." He pointed over to Misty.

"Follow this path and you'll soon be in Pewter City." Samurai said.

"Cool. Thanks." They part ways with Samurai and continue heading through Viridian Forest to get to Pewter City.
