Chapter 3- New Hope, Broken Heart

(Y/N POV)

Recently Varian has just been isolating himself from everyone after the incident
Im worried about him, and every time i try to speak to him he just tell me to go away
Quirin probably doesnt even notice, he is too busy to do so
It hurt to see him like this, today im going to try and cheer him up again

I walk up to his room door and knocked
"Hey V, can i come in?"
I asked, I am trying not to show worry

"Yeah"
I heard him say faintly
When I walked in he was sitting on his bed, looking very VERY sad

"Ay V"
I said with a kind of hispanic accent (Yes im making the Y/N hispanic)
"Dont be so hard on yourself because of what happened"
I said sitting next to him

"Everyone must hate me because of what I did, I was just trying to help"
Varian said with a very sad tone

"V, you had very good intentions, and no, they dont hate you, they are worried about you"
I said while rubbing his back a little

"Hmmm, sure"
Varian said not believing what I said

Then I remembered that the science exposition was going to happen very soon
"Hey V, I heard that a science exposition is going to happen in Corona,
And you know, you are a great Alchemist and all, so why dont you sign up
That way you can get stuff off your head and have fun doing what you always loved to do"
I said trying to cheer him up, which worked because i saw literal sparkles come out of his eyes

"Science Exposition?"
Varian asked excited, and I only nodded in response
There is that cute smile i always liked to see

"You think I can make something that can impress Cassandra?"
Varin asked while getting off his bed
Those words broke me really bad

"Y-Yeah, you do you V"
I said faking a smile

"Thank you so much (Y)" (First letter of your name)
Varian hugged me and then ran off

"Yeah...your welcome....."
I said quietly
So he likes Cassandra....how.....charming
Wait- Why do I feel sad?! I should be happy for him!

Today was the day of the exposition, and Varian really put all of his hard work into this machine
Just for....Cassandra.....

I was outside sitting under a tree, I was just trying to get stuff out of my head
Then I saw Varian who was heading over to Corona for the exposition, when he walked past me I waved to him and he waved back

"You wanna come with (Y/N)?"
Varian asked, I had to find an excuse QUICK!

"I-I uh...*cough cough* Nah, I should stay Im a little *Cough* sick"
I said faking coughs, and apparentaly it worked because he didnt question and just left

God, im such a terrible friend, why am i so selfish?....

I need to clear my head, and i havent been at the ruins of my old house
It shouldnt hurt to see, I pretty much became numb to the pain
so I started making my way over there

Varian POV

I was making my way back home
I won first place on the exposition
Even though it walmost caused the whole castle to go on ruins
But thats not important!
I bet (Y/N) will be proud of me
Probably even dad!

"Hey (Y/N) Im back!"
I said as i entered the house but she wasnt in there

"(Y/N)?"
I asked/Yelled
Until I finally saw her, she was sitting on a bench looking down at the floor

"Hey (Y/N)-"
I stopped myself when i saw she had a terrified look on her face

"Woah, (Y/N) what happened?"
I asked as I sat down next to her, and all of the sudden she hugged me

"The black rocks....they are spreading....."
I heard her say quietly
