After arriving at the Brisk Cafe shop thirdy minutes before the scheduled secret meeting, Benicio sat in the dining hall of the restaurant by himself with a single lamp hanging above his table. It was the only efficient lighting in the room. With the plan expertly set in place, the only thing he needed to do was wait.
It wasn't a long wait, Benicio heard the door open and the hysterical laughter of the three gentlemen he was anxiously waiting for. The sound of their laughter only infuriated him more, but he managed to calm himself knowing that his revenge would be sweet.
"Whoa, it's pretty dark in here." James commented.
"Where is everybody?" Benicio heard the southern drawl coming from Thomas's voice.
Benicio turned around and pulled out a deck of cards. He began shuffling them, causing a loud echo to erupt through the dining hall. "James, Thomas, Mark..." he said with a tone of surprise. "What brings you three here?"
There was a brief silence as the men realized they were not alone. Benicio could see the shock on their faces. This satisfied him but he kept his face unreadable. The three of them looked from one another, confusion running all over their faces.
"Bennie..." James greeted walking into the darkness and towards the table. "What are you doing here?" He smiled, the corners of his mouth twitched.
As much as Benicio wanted to wipe that stupid smile off of James's face, he kept his composure. He continued to shuffle the deck of cards in his hands. "I closed the resturant early so I could catch a hand of poker with Mickey and Joey before I take my fiancee to dinner tonight."
Pure silence.
He controlled the smirk that threatened to emerge and continued. "Looks like they're not gonna show up. You three want to sit in?" Finally, he looked up.
James was now a few feet away from him and visible through the light. Marcus and Thomas still stood by the open door. They didn't move an inch.
"We just came here for lunch." Thomas offered as an unasked explanation.
Benicio's eyes rolled over to him. He was prepared to hear that excuse. "You still can. I didn't dismiss the cook or the server." He smiled friendly, lightening up the mood, making them feel more comfortable. It wasn't as if the café shop was never closed by Big Daddy for something as simple as a game of poker. Benicio waved the deck in the air and pulled out a stack of bills with his free hand. "It's just a few rounds."
After following the bills with his eyes James sighed and took off his suit jacket. "Ah what the hell," He motioned for Marcus and Thomas to join them.
After they were seated comfortably Benicio began dealing the cards.
"Hey Bennie why don't you call the server over to get us some of that whiskey you sell at the club." Marcus suggested while he studied his cards.
Benicio leaned down and picked up a bottle off of the floor. He sat it on the table as well as four glasses. "I like to keep my hooch close to me." He said casually as he looked at his own cards.
They played hand after hand, while laughing and carrying numerous conversations. Thomas asked Benicio how he felt about marrying Kenzie. Before he had the chance to answer, James expressed his disgust at the idea. Surprisingly to Benicio, Thomas didn't share James's notation. He explained how he always founded the colored woman attractive since he was a teenaged. He also went on to explain the sexual favors he wanted to perform on them in explicit detail. He admitted that he knew a colored woman would never go for an over weight balding man like him.
