Alessia
When we got back home, I went straight to my room and unpackaged the phone. Angelo got me the latest Samsung. If it was up to me, I wouldn't be able to afford such a big amount to get a phone. I switched on the phone and allowed it to boot.
Excitement filled me up at the thought of hearing from my parents. I know they're worried. I won't be surprised if the case was taken to the police station. A sim was already set in the phone and some other apps. However, my main focus was to hear the voice of my parents.
I typed my mom's digit and was about to press the call button, but stopped. My heart picked up with beating. From the sitting position, I changed back to a standing position. After much thought, I pressed the call button.
With each ringing of the call, was the drumming of my heart. "Hello." The familiar voice of my mom resonated through the phone. My body immediately weakened and I found myself going down to the floor, with my vision turning blurry.
"Hello? Who's on the line please?" Her voice came through again.
"Mo...m. It's me...Alessia." I choked out. The tears finally make their way out. Silence followed from the other end, causing me to panic. "It's your daughter, Alessia." I formed out the words again.
"Alessia?" She repeated. "I'm sorry, but we don't have a daughter by that name. She's dead." And the line went dead silent. It took an ounce of me to process what happened. Or did I call the wrong line? It was undeniably her voice. My mom's voice. Or didn't she recognize me?
"Let me try calling again," I said sitting upright. I dialed the number once again. The words I was greeted with knocked the air out of me. "Are you deaf? I told you I don't have a daughter by that name. Don't call this number again!" Her voice was sharp and pierced through my skull.
I could hardly process what I heard. I didn't give up and dialed my Dad's. The call wasn't picked up. I tried again and was sent to voicemail. "What is going on? Why did mom react that way?" I muffled out amidst tears. There was no way that I would be mistaken for my own mother's voice. It was her.
I scrolled through the message part and typed away. Mom, it's me, Alessia. Your daughter. I'm not dead. I'm alive. Please pick up the call.
I expected a reply but none came. I still tried calling her number again but got a response that the phone was switched off. I shook my head tears clouding my vision. "No. That's not true. I'm sure Mom doesn't recognize me that was why she reacted that way."
"I'm not dead. I'm alive." I continuously said dialing the number again. All I could get was a silent response. The same goes for my Dad's line which kept on taking me to voicemail.
"No!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, allowing painful tears to gush out of my eyes. "No!" I shouted again, hitting my hand on the bed. I hit my back on the floor and clutched my heart while allowing the pain to take over me. It can't be. Something was wrong.
I don't know how many times I tried calling but all didn't go through. I was in pain. I felt like my heart was going to rip apart. I cried and cried till I felt numb. I lay on the floor, hair splattered all around holding the phone, with tears still gushing out. I closed my eyes and relished the bitter bile that rose in my throat. "All of it is a dream," I assured myself. When I wake up it'd all be a dream.
However, reality hit hard. When I woke up and dialed the numbers, they weren't reachable. All my messages were left unread. "Does that mean I wasn't dreaming?" I asked myself getting off the floor.
Anger suddenly surged through me and I found myself leaving the room. I didn't care to knock on his study room. I kicked it hard with my legs not bothering about spraining it. "Are you happy now?" I commenced charging towards him. He rose from his seat.
