I had never really thought about Malik being immortal until now. I knew it would be challenging for us because I would be getting older with every year that passed while he continued to be youthful, well in looks, but maybe we'd find a way to...
I pushed that thought away knowing it was better if I just accepted our given faith than to change it, no matter how hard it might be.
"Don't let that freak you out, you and Malik will be fine," Zemerah assured me softly.
"How long ago did they find out?"
"Five years ago when she was eighteen. Vilen was sent to the Alkebulan lands to retrieve the werewolves that had gone there to train, which is how they met." She explained briefly and I wasn't able to ask anything else as Yasmine spoke once again.
"Malik, you failed to answer our question, why are the Aropians here?"
"The woman beside Zemerah is clearly his mate."
Another alpha stated.
"She could just be someone he sleeps with, Isan," The man with dark almond skin remarked.
"Omari, that is very unlikely. I heard he hasn't been seen with a woman for twenty-five years, so she must be his mate."
I raised my eyebrows when Isan said this because there was a great possibility that the woman he had been seen with then could be the reason the war had even begun because it was stated numerous times that my grandfather killed someone important to him...someone he loved and Malik had clarified that it wasn't his father.
"Zaelah is my mate and this is her family." He revealed, stopping their game of guessing and his reply raised many brows as it did questions.
"Wasn't he the caused of the war?" Isan inquired, pointing at Kai who instantly frowned at the inquiry.
"His father was, but he continued it," Malik explained and it looked like it took much strength on Kai's part not to say anything about his statement.
"I know history class will be more difficult for these kids," Isan commented after releasing a breath.
"I want ice cream," Omari muttered loudly.
"Is he always this random?" I asked Malik softly and he nodded with a sigh.
"Can you guess who picked him?"
"Vilen?" I answered in a questioning manner and he smiled, letting me know I was right.
"Aren't you going to eat?" Malik asked me, causing my eyes to be drawn at the food options in bowls in front of my empty plate.
"Soon, by the way, where's your mother? I wanted to meet her before I left." I questioned him, even though I was extremely uneasy at the thought of speaking to her, but I knew I had to do it sooner or later.
"She's in Lumarine handling some business."
"They still want to sign a peace treaty?" Yasmine inquired, letting us know she had been listening.
"Yeah."
"I thought you were going to handle that," Omari noted after swallowing the piece of meat he had taken up earlier.
"I was, but Zaelah went into heat while I was heading there." Malik briefly explained and his words had their focus drifting to me.
"How was your first heat, Zaelah? I see you survived it without him having to mark you." Isan commented, his eyes glimpsing my neck.
