"Zaelah, will you be going to the pack's ball next month?" Yasmine questioned me after she broke the conversation she was having with Eiana.
"I'm not sure, I wasn't aware the pack was having a ball. What's it for?" I asked, displaying my interest.
"We're celebrating the end of the war."
"That's bold. Violeia hasn't been destroyed." Kai stated and I forced down my irritation at the mere sound of his voice.
"Yet," Eiana added.
"Actually, there won't be a need for violence, Queen Celeste was open to the idea of a peace treaty the last time she spoke to me—through a letter," I informed them.
"You didn't tell me she asked for one." Kai commented.
"I wasn't aware I needed to, plus you were in the room when I received the letter, but you were too busy speaking to mom." I explained and realisation greeted his eyes.
"What did you say to her?" Omari inquired, exhibiting his inquisitiveness.
"I told her I couldn't help her, but I wasn't aware at the time that Malik was making peace treaties." I revealed while explaining why I responded the way I did.
"I'm glad this will finally be over. I hope we won't face any more bloodshed after this." Isan uttered after releasing a sigh.
"Agreed. This war is enough for one lifetime." I stated.

After we finished dinner, Malik and I went our separate ways which allowed me to take a long, hot shower.
I was in my mind about everything that had happened over the past few weeks since I had yet to make a process with his pack, but I had to admit seeing how laid back the alphas were with me and my family around brought me slight hope that I'd be able to make his pack and others feel comfortable in my presence as well, but I knew that was probably too much to ask for given my history with each of them.
Fortunately, the sound of someone knocking against my door broke my train of thoughts.
Soon I exited the bathroom after I dried off and securely wrapped a towel around my body and when I opened the door, I immediately spoke.
"Is everything alright?" I asked, meeting familiar black eyes.
"No, I can't sleep." He announced softly as he allowed his orbs to swiftly take me in, but he made sure they didn't stray for too long.
"Probably because you're wearing a suit to bed?" I replied, earning a deep chuckle from the depths of his throat and I had to say that did more to me than it was supposed to.
"You make an excellent point."
"But seriously, why can't you sleep?" I questioned him, concerned.
"I'm in my head about some things," Malik replied as he leaned against the doorway, slipping his hands inside his pockets.
"Do you want to come in?" I inquired and I earned an immediate shake of his head.
"I shouldn't...I can't." He expressed softly, seeming like he was fighting with himself, so my brows furrowed in both confusion and curiosity.
