THIS MEANS NOTHING

Quick lil note, I know Solar has just died. I might not be posting as much because he was my fave character and here I was thinking he was invincible. I'll still write to distract myself but updates will be slow and probably not as... interesting? If that's the word. Solar's death will not be included here as this takes place a few months ago, around Eclipse's last death. Ruin is good in this book just because I'm in unhealthy denial. Thank you all for the support and understanding.

I didn't leave the island. I just went outside and sat on the docks.

The water lapped at my bare feet, adding to the chill. The sunset cast golden orange light over the waves. My ears echoed with the sound of the static ocean. All was calm.

Except for my mind, of course.

My face was heated, not from the sun. At least, not the one in front of me, shining to me over billions of miles - the one in the building I just left, laughing and playing charades with his family. The one with the golden hair and the blue eyes, the perfectly imperfect skin and the soft pink lips. The one that somehow shined brighter than that thing in the sky.

I thought no human was that beautiful until we locked eyes.

I hit the heel of my palm against the head a few times. You idiot, I think to myself, you're not meant to like him. Hell, you're not meant to like a guy at all! It's not how you're meant to be...

I wrap my arms around myself. It wasn't my fault I had that mindset.

"R-Ruin..?"

I screech and spin around, grabbing my shoe and throwing it like a projectile. Sun - the human - cries out as he's hit in the face, stumbling and holding his eye.

"Oh my god!" I jump to my feet and rush over, trying to look at his eye. "I am so very sorry, Sunrise, it was instinct! I shouldn't have-"

Sun brushes my hand away, chuckling nervously. His eye was tearing up - whether it was just because that's what happens when your eye is in danger or if he's also in extreme pain, I couldn't tell - and red. "It's alright, I have instincts too."

"I hope your eye doesn't bruise." Your beautiful blue eye. I didn't reach forward again, acutely aware of how close we were and just how awkward that would be. I stepped away instead.

He rubs his eye, winces, and lowers his hand. "It might, but I've gotten worse from better people. Anyway, I came out here to check on you. I, uh, I-I noticed you didn't leave the island."

I shrug as if it was no big deal. It was, indeed, a very big deal. "Just sat down for a bit." I grab my shoes and put them on.

Sun watches me curiously. "Okay..."

I stretch. "Well, I should get going. For sure this time."

"Uh, wait..." Sun stops me, grabbing my arm. His hand is warm. We lock eyes again, then turn away at the same moment. I didn't want to sink again.

"We should, uhmm..." His stutter gave away his nervousness. "We-we should, uh, like, hang-hang out again soon. Ya know, like-uh-like earlier. Just go out to eat or- uhmmh- or somethin'..."

I had to remind myself he didn't know that was a date. I try to smiles past my embarrassment, hoping he can't see my flushed face in the dimness. "Y-yeah, we-uh-we should!"

Sadly, we both have a stutter.

Sun smiles back, then seems to realize he was gripping me rather tightly. He lets go and scratches my neck. "So, uh... see-see you at work?"

"Yeah, I-I suppose so." I crack my knuckles.

We stare at each other for a moment. "Well then..." I pause. "... Goodnight!" I instantly turn and dash away to the teleporter thing.

A glance behind me told me Sun was smiling wider, and I couldn't help but return the expression.
