It's halfway through the month already.
That realization dawns on me as Sun and I watch Solar get the movie working in the theatre. The movie today was Octonauts and the Ring of Fire, since it was educational and enjoyable. All the children were gathered below us, sitting and laying about and talking. Solar pressed some buttons, and the light dimmed, making some kids giggle and clap and others cry out in alarm. The few we knew were scared of the dark or didn't want to watch were in the daycare with Earth or napping with Lunar.
The intro played, hushing everyone. Solar stood and looked at us. "Well, I got it from here. Go take your break."
"Thank you," I said the same time as Sun said, "Thanks." We glance at each other and chuckle. Solar raises an eyebrow as he turns to watch the kids, and we leave.
We go around to one of the old party rooms, which the family had made into a breakroom. The table was still in the centre with the confetti cloth over it, but they had removed anything else relating to a birthday. Instead, there was coffee pot on the table the presents used to be kept, some paper plates and snacks in the middle of the big table, and a water filter with some plastic cups on the other side of the room.
Sun grabs a plate and grabs some crackers, pepperoni, and small cheese slices to put on. It's enough for both of us. He looks back at me and holds the plate out, from which I grab a piece of cheese and pop it on my tongue.
We leave the room and walk to the counter where the teleporter is. Sun touches the plush of him, and with a zap of electricity he's gone. I look over, and he's waving at me from the podium before ducking under the curtain. I close my eyes and pray I don't puke as I do the same.
Sun looks up and chuckles when he sees me wobble down the steps of boxes. The room was mildly dusty from misuse, fairly dirty with some rubble and toys laying about, but we're able to eat at least. Sun sets the plate on the arm rest of the couch and makes a mini sandwich, which he hands to me.
I take a bite and sigh. "Remind me to eat this more," I say.
He chuckles and puts his whole sandwich in his mouth, swallowing before he speaks again. "We have plenty at mine and Moon's house, and I'm the only one who eats them." He starts to pull off his headpiece. "I'll bring you some... Soon... Oh god dammit."
Sun was now tugging on the band, but it seemed to be tangled in his hair. I snort in laughter and look away, covering my mouth.
"Shush, hold on." He tugs some more before wincing and letting go with a defeated sigh.
"Need some help?" I offer, still chuckling. He nods, and I walk over to him. He's slightly taller than I, so I reach up and begin uncurling his hair around the pieces. "You just gotta be gentle with it," I tease as I get the band off with ease, holding it above his head. He grumbles in response.
Then, we lock eyes.
We're much closer than I realized - his nose was inches from mine, his breath warming my lips. My arms fall to wrap around his neck, the forgotten headpiece landing on the ground behind him. His hands hesitantly reach up and cup my hips.
I smile nervously. "Hi..."
His eyes fall to my lips. "Hi..."
And then he kisses me.
His lips are soft, gentle as they mingle with mine. His grip gets tighter, and I curl in my arms more to pull him closer. I close my eyes as I feel one hand move around my body, first to grab the end of my hat and pull it of before pressing on the small of my back.
We're chest to chest, breathing in synchrony. I feel his heartbeat quicken. My hand scoots closer to lightly hold the side of his neck. His head tilts the other way, and I feel the faint muscles stretch.
My tongue accidentally brushes his lips, and I immediately pull away to apologize. He doesn't let me, though - he hand moves to the back of my head to pull me closer, teasing me by touching our lips but not kissing again.
His voice is breathy. "Is something wrong?"
I can only stutter what I hoped sounded like a no.
I feel him smile before he finally kisses me again, this time gently pushing his tongue past my lips.
My knees nearly buckle as I'm able to fully taste him - coffee, crackers, a bit of cheese. I gasp softly, the hand not on his neck moving up to tangle in his golden locks. My head tilts back so his isn't at such an awkward angle.
He leans me back so he's holding me up by my back, our lips become less gentle, I hear him moan softly he grips the back f my shirt-
We hear Earth laugh in the main daycare and remember where we are - that we're working - and pull away reluctantly. Sun doesn't let me stand up fully, so he has me dipped backward a little as we pant and stare at each other. I slowly move to wipe away some saliva on his chin - his or mine, I couldn't tell.
He slowly lifts me up, and turns to grab his headpiece. I make sure my hat is back on my head and that my hair's in its bun. Sun looks back at me before speaking. "We should... get back to the kids. The movie should be over soon."
There was a part of me that had hoped he would say something else, but I'm not surprised either. "Yeah..."
He looked beautiful with his hair a mess.
