"Hey girllll" Thea burst right into Annabeths room in her cabin. "Hey Thea, what's going on with newbie?" Both girls started laughing, if anyone saw them together they'd think the two were crazy people, but the whole of camp knew better about the best friends."Ha, funny thing..." Thea startled of, AnnaBeth gave her a confused look, "He kinda believes if he finds a talent his dad will claim him" it took a few seconds but after Thea's words settled in the two burst into a fit of laughter, Thea was about to pee herself.
"Yo-you can't be serious, he actually thinks that?" AnnaBeth asked, Thea just nodded, "yeah, I know" what were they going to do now. "He might not be the one..." it just got a little bit more serious, "well let's go see how he's doing, get in some more training to!" Always looking on the bright side Thea was, the camps cheerleader!
AnnaBeth off to the side and Thea right next to Luke, they caught them while they were heading to Percy's first trial, the bow and arrow. Lydia, a girl from cabin four, Demeter's daughter. Although stuck in a wheelchair, not half horse however, only half god and half human, like everyone else, being unable to walk doesn't let her down, she's one of camps best archers, which is why she's perfect to show Percy how it's done.
She grabbed an arrow and lit it with fire, everyone watched in anticipation for her to show Percy how it's done, while little Percy's eyes widened at the flame. She aimed and shot her arrow, coursing through the air, it landed right on the bullseye. Everyone clapped and cheered for the girl.
Now it was Percy's turn and everyone was silent, curious to see how good he was. Lydia offered the new boy to light his arrow on fire, just like she'd done, previously.
"A good source of glory re feats of skill, so we gotta figure out what your good at!" Luke told Percy while handing him the bow and arrows. "I wanna be very clear about this...I've never done anything like this before, and it looks super dangerous" Percy nervously started between Thea and the target.
"Percy, I think you've never killed a Minotaur, till you did"
Lydia offered the new boy to light his arrow on fire, just like she'd done, previously. Even more scared he'd hurt someone he decides to immediately turn it down, content with just a normal arrow as his first try.
"I wouldn't"
He aimed his bow and let go. Everyone ducked down scared of getting pierced by the arrow very badly shot by Percy. Falling down from the impact, Percy knew full well shooting arrows wasn't going to get him glory.
"Should I try again?" Immediately everyone shouted loudly at him, no one wanted to get accidentally shot by him a second time. Moving on Luke took Percy to the blacksmiths, where he'd try craft dangerous swords and equipment.
"Come on" like pushed Percy closer to the boy already crafting a sword. The boy saw Percy and handed him his hammer. Percy set up exactly how he saw the blacksmith boy, he raised the small hammer and banged it down on the hot material, the second time he hit so hard the piece of material flew a few metres right past another camper. Creating another fire, Luke grabbed Percy and they made a run for it, Thea and AnnaBeth stood just off pissing themselves laughing at the two boys.
Finally it was Lunch time and Thea spotted AnnaBeth sitting down, so she decided to join her best friend. "Hey girl!" AnnaBeth acknowledged her bestie and got up to hug her, "hey, how funny was it today, do you think he's going to be the one?" Every time there's a new kid, that was the big topic they mostly spoke about, both waiting for the prophecy to come true.
"To be honest I don't know, so far he's not showing any signs, but there's still time" Thea honestly replied, equally as concerned about the prophecy. Off to the side sat like and Percy, both the boys eating their lunch and discussing the disappointment so far in the day.
Thea stared at Percy, deep down something told her they won't be waiting for long. The bell starts chiming soon after, signalling the time to complete the burn offerings, Thea could hear Percy's confusion, "it's time" she chuckled to herself and got her plate as well as AnnaBeth, "time for what" the two shared knowing glances while they took their plates and scraps ready for their gods and goddesses.
The two joint up with Luke, Percy and Chris before they took their scraps "the gods like the smell, it gets their attention before you say a prayer" Thea explained to the confused boy. Thea linked arms with AnnaBeth before skipping off. Leaving the three boys to stare at their retreating backs.
Percy turned to the two boys, "they like the smell of burnt Mac and cheese?" Chris laughed at him before explaining more, "they like the smell of begging." As Chris left Luke continued, "you burn what you'll miss the most, then they'll know what you really mean what you're about to say, so they'll listen." Percy thinks he's finally understood and definitely knows who he's going to pray about.
Everyone went their own ways and continued their days till night time when Percy decided to send a message to his mother, hoping she'd listen. Thea snuck behind him, it was her turn to snoop on him.
"Hi mum, I have good news, I miss you so much, but I think... I've made friends here, like real friends. I think they really like me." Thea's heart warmed at that, she wondered if he had any friends before coming to camp. What he said next shocked her though.
"There's this girl to, I met her yesterday, she's sweet, kind and really pretty." Her eyes widened when he said that, she wondered who this girl was, and how he spoke of her so quickly. Little did she know, she already knew exactly who that special girl was.
