It had been three days since they returned home from the county. As Delilah asked her to, she used the work excuse to leave. Her parents might have believed it was true because of past events where she had to rush back to the city due to a work crisis but David didn't buy it.

To him, it felt like Jenna was slipping away, although he didn't know why. They have been apart more than actually spent some time together. Whenever they get close something strikes a chord and pulls them away. He doesn't like it. This push and pull, this inconsistency from her. Always her.

He's understanding of her case. This isn't some normal romantic story that has a promising happy ending. The reality of their attraction has a very rough ending. He's not unaware of the fact that his likeness is for his daughter's friend. Someone twice younger than him. Someone smart and beautiful unlike a mess of man he is.

A single parent for over two decades, the lingering reminder of Lauren's decision, the ups and downs of his emotional battle. It wasn't easy to overcome those things and find a will to try again on that road.

He had a hard time in the dating scenario. One-night stands fulfilled his bodily needs. But his heart? It was scared and fragile like a kid trapped in a dark room. He wanted to escape so badly and see the light but whenever he tried to cross the threshold, something or someone always gave him reasons why the familiarity of the dark was much better than the unknown brightness.

He thought that's how he would live.

Until she came and he got his first taste of bravery. He wanted to cross the threshold for her. Tried his best but only managed to keep one foot outside. The brightness greeted his foot with savoring feelings of hope, excitement, giddiness, and a raw pleasure that the unknown might not be worse. He was convinced and was about to step his other foot too toward the brightness when he saw his fears and Jenna's resistance toward him.

He was concerned about Delilah finding out but more so, for the first time in decades he didn't care. Hurting Delilah was never his intention which is why he promised himself to stay away from Jenna but that fucking day at the beach ruined it all. His jealousy overpowered his maturity and look now he's a mess.

Justifying Jenna's push-and-pull actions wasn't going to work this time. Either she wants him or he's getting her either way. There's no 'no' in this. Previously, he was hesitant because of his daughter and hadn't gone all the way towards his attraction but now? He wants her more than anyone.

He wants to go on a date with her. Have small conversations. Get to know each other and after all that, he wants to fuck her in his bed. In the same bedsheet, he came numerous times with her face in mind.

If she's worried, he would try to work this through her way. But this push and pull will fucking end today. The decision was clear and he was confident as he made his way to her gallery.

It was almost close to lunch hours. She must be getting ready for a break and he needs her to spare him some time. Or else he would take it. He was never a demanding person but something about Jenna charges this predatory instincts in him.

Parking his car in the gallery's parking lot, he takes a quick trip to the front door and makes his way towards her office. The short hallway leading to her room wasn't as empty as it had been on the day of the exhibition. A few people were lingering by the corridor, making practice walks back and forth from her office to the management area.

David ignored all their questioning looks as he strode to her door and barged in without a knock. The sound of the door being opened harshly startled the people inside and the sound of baby wallowing filtered through the room. He saw two more people in the room sitting across from Jenna on the chair.
