David was on a two-day work tour to New York which meant he wasn't going to accompany them to Jenna's hometown. It was the weekend after the exhibition and Jenna was leaving for her parent's house as she promised.
It won't be for much longer. She'll be back next Saturday or Sunday if her best friend allows. Delilah has a huge crush on small towns. She likes local towns like her home and after visiting Jenna's house last summer, she fell in love with the southern crowd.
Now as both the girls pack their respective suitcases, Jenna wonders what David would think once he returns from his work trip. Del's plan had included her father. She wanted to go on a holiday with him, doesn't matter the place as long as she had him with her but unfortunately a new client knocked on his door at the last moment and he had to leave.
Del didn't like it but she got over it when Jenna showed her the new farm animals her parents bought.
"Okay, he doesn't look like Donald Trump. He's a Donald but not a Trump. A different Donald,"
Jenna looked over Del's shoulder to the phone she was holding, "Not every duck has to be a Donald, Del,"
"Says you who believes all the cats in the world should be named Tom,"
"If they look like one," Jenna continued putting her skincare products in her pouch. "And Garfield for orange cats,"
"You really shouldn't be allowed to pick names,"
They share a laugh. Half of their stuff was packed except for the gifts that Jenna had bought for her parents. It would take another hour or two to finish the packing before they get on the road.
"Do you think the weather would be hot there?" Del asks throwing a pair of red bikinis in her suitcase only to pull it back. Unsure.
"I think it will be summer,"
"Duh, it's May of course it's summer. How is that an answer?"
"The same way you asked me that question,"
"Some summers aren't hot,"
"Exactly. It might be hot or it might not be hot. Not all places are like California,"
Del scoffed and showed her another set of bikinis, "So is that a yes or no for the bikini?"
"Del, c'mon you know we have a lake there and you always swim in it. Take some pairs and stop asking questions like this is your first trip to my home," Jenna put her skincare pouch next to her cosmetic pouch in the bag and threw some facial wipes before adding two sunscreens.
"Yes goes my red bikini," she says throwing a couple more pairs of thongs before adding real clothes. "It's going to be empty not having Nathan there. Ever since, we confessed our feelings it's hard to stay separated,"
Jenna knew how that felt. Although in her case they didn't confess. They just didn't deny their attraction towards each other and that was everything. "Look at you acting like those clingy honeymooners you always hated. You're not gonna ditch me in the middle and run back to your Romeo, are you?"
Del laughs and plops on the bed not caring there are ironed shirts but Jenna does as she swats her arm, "No no....I just ironed them. Delilah!"
"Chill sorry. It didn't get any creases,"
"You were waiting to get one,"
Del rolls on the bed and folds her hand under her head, "Your shirt is fine but I am not. How long is too long to say I am in dry spell?"
Jenna folds the shirts neatly and places them on the bed, a bit away from Del, "Maybe a month for some people. For you, three days,"
"Fucking knew it. This wonderland isn't happy with the no-dick sobriety. They're gonna miss the action."
